Why Hammerhead Sharks are So Sick (ft. Bertie Gregory) | Lindsay Nikole

Lindsay Nikole | June 10, 2026

Hammerheads aren’t just weird-looking their hammer-shaped head is one of evolution’s most brilliant designs. Discover how their cephalofoil gives them a supercharged electroreception system that can detect prey buried in sand across a wider field than any other shark. But these iconic predators are in serious trouble. Wildlife filmmaker Bertie Gregory (National Geographic, Emmy winner) joins the channel fresh from filming scalloped hammerheads off the Baja Peninsula in Mexico once a hammerhead mecca, now a conservation battleground. Plus, meet Chocolate Chip, a massive oceanic manta ray with a bubble bath addiction, and find out why there might actually be hope for one of the ocean’s most misunderstood apex predators.

A huge thank you to NatGeo and Bertie for making this possible!

While its cool to see the trailer and neat that you get noticed by the big sempais, this video ended up having barely any information about the species it was supposed to be about, heck it ended up having more info about a particular Manta Ray (which is cute yes but still). It just kinda felt like a full-video ad for the upcoming series they're doing.
Naturally this isn't "selling out" since its pretty relevant, just kind of missing most of what you'd expect from the video. I do hope you make a video expanding on Hammerheads if possible, but its your channel. I'm not even a day 1 comment lmao.

Hammerheads fascinate me. That configuration is utterly nonsense, but there they are, just like a platypus or, well, a human. We aren't built to live if you think about it logically and yet… life there is, in ways that work, just don't meet standards of "best design". It's so cool.

Still think it would be fun to see Lindsey colab with Aron Ra on a subject, possibly snakes or the like. Though that may be a lot of black being worn in one vid. ^_^!

I've always loved these dudes, and not enough people talk about them….plus I'm pretty sure there's a game where one of the bosses uses a hammerhead shark as a well hammer.

I think Bertie has the demeanour and presenting style to be able to take over the baton from Sir David Attenborough when that time comes. Hopefully not for many years though.

I've had shark fin soup a number of times. This was a several decades ago with my then partner whose parents owned a high end Chinese restaurant. I thought "shark fin" soup was kinda like "100 year old eggs." A colloquialism that included no sharks because that seemed kinda impossible to me. And boy was it amazing! Not fishy at all, so confirmed, no sharks.

Years later I realized that it did in fact include shark fin, harvested in the most cruel and wasteful way possible. I've always felt guilty about that and have given money a few times to various shark conservation organizations. And comment on videos like this.

It was bad that 30 years ago we were doing this to these wonderful and vulnerable creatures. That we are still doing it is a crime against nature with all that we know.

Hey y'all, National Geographic is owned by a neo-nazi (google Vincent Bolloré), please, if you can, avoid consuming any National Geographic media (or stream illegally if you do).
