NYT best selling author Dr. Agus says just let your body do what it does, ditch all this extra stuff. Eat generally well most of the time, exercise, do what you need to do to lower stress and sleep well. I take a daily multivitamin and calcium, nothing else, 67 years old, hoping that's still the case 10 years from now.

How Your DNA Changes How Supplements Work
Your body has a special instruction manual called DNA. Just like DNA decides the color of your eyes, it also controls tiny workers inside your body called enzymes. These enzymes act like little kitchen blenders that chop up, process, or get rid of vitamins and supplements. Because everyone's DNA is a little different, some people's blenders run super fast, while others run very slowly. If your enzyme blenders are slow, a supplement can build up in your body and cause problems. If they run too fast, your body might flush the supplement out before it can help you at all.

    1. Magnesium Glycinate

What it does: Calms down your nervous system to help your muscles relax and help you fall asleep easier.

DNA Influence: Your genes control how easily your gut absorbs minerals and how your nerves react to calming signals.

How to take: Take in the evening, roughly 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime.

With or without food: Can be taken with a light evening snack or on an empty stomach; taking it with food can help if you have a sensitive stomach.

Do not take with: Avoid taking large doses at the same time as calcium supplements or iron, as they can compete for absorption in the gut.

Pros: Gentle on the stomach; helps you get deep, restful sleep.

Cons: Taking too much can sometimes cause mild tummy troubles or a laxative effect.

    2. Omega-3 Fatty Acids (EPA)

What it does: Helps protect your heart, keeps your brain healthy, and lowers swelling or irritation in the body.

DNA Influence: Genetic traits control how well your cells use healthy fats and how your liver handles oils.

How to take: Take with a meal that contains dietary fats.

With or without food: Always take with food. Fats in your meal trigger the release of digestive enzymes that are required to properly absorb and break down fish oils. Taking them on an empty stomach often leads to fishy burps or poor absorption.

Do not take with: Use caution if you take prescription blood thinners (like warfarin), as high-dose omega-3s can have an additive blood-thinning effect.

Pros: Great for heart health and keeping your mind sharp.

Cons: Low-quality fish oils can go bad quickly, taste fishy, or cause burps.

    3. Vitamin D3 with K2

What it does: Acts like a team to keep your immune system strong and make sure calcium goes straight to your bones instead of getting stuck in your blood vessels.

DNA Influence: Your DNA determines how well your skin makes Vitamin D from the sun and how your liver processes it.

How to take: Take earlier in the day, preferably with your largest meal of the day (like breakfast or lunch).

With or without food: Always take with a meal containing fats. Because both Vitamin D3 and K2 are fat-soluble vitamins, they require dietary fat to be absorbed into the bloodstream.

Do not take with: Avoid taking high doses alongside calcium supplements unless explicitly directed by your doctor, as it drives calcium into tissues.

Pros: Strengthens bones and supports your immune system.

Cons: Taking very high doses without checking your blood levels can lead to a dangerous buildup of calcium in the body.

    4. Alpha-GPC

What it does: Gives your brain a boost of a chemical called acetylcholine to help with memory, focus, and good REM sleep.

DNA Influence: Your genes affect how your brain handles brain-signaling chemicals and how quickly your liver breaks them down.

How to take: Take in the morning or early afternoon. Because it supports focus and brain energy, taking it too late in the day can interfere with sleep.

With or without food: Can be taken with or without food, though taking it with a small meal or snack can prevent mild stomach queasiness.

Do not take with: Avoid combining it with other cognitive enhancers or acetylcholine boosters unless you know how your body handles them, as too much acetylcholine can occasionally cause headaches or jitteriness.

Pros: Sharper focus and better memory.

Cons: Can be too strong for some people, causing headaches or jitters, and shouldn't be taken every single day without a break.

    5. Creatine Monohydrate

What it does: Gives your muscles extra quick energy for strength and helps fuel your brain cells when you are tired.

DNA Influence: Your muscle and cell genetics decide how much natural energy storage your body already holds and how well it takes in extra creatine.

How to take: Can be taken at any time of day consistently, though many prefer it post-workout or in the morning.

With or without food: Can be taken with or without food. Mixing it into water or a post-workout shake with some carbohydrates can help with cellular uptake, but consistency matters most.

Do not take with: Ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day, as creatine draws water into your cellular muscles to hydrate them properly.

Pros: Helps build strength and gives your brain a nice energy boost.

Cons: Can cause your muscles to hold onto extra water, which might make you feel slightly bloated at first.

An Over the counter Omega 3 similar to Lovaza is from Nordic Naturals, highly reputable and have passed several third-party test in Europe and also favored by some health care professionals. My Doctor told me this is the way to go if your insurance doesn't want to cover it under no medical reasons.

Mr Huberman is a master. Possibly at supplements and health, but definitely at human relationships. He worked in several very subtle but flattering and thoughtful comments about Steven, people they've been together with, other practitioners, etc.

By recalling memories of things the other person has said or done he shows they are significant to him and makes the other person feel good and feel "heard".

As far as the five supplements he suggested, I think he could drop any two and instead suggest care for others feelings and respect for others' views. If we all followed his manner, we'd be better off.
