Why Trump’s Appalling 9/11 Lie Is Just The Start | The Daily Beast Podcast

The Daily Beast | September 10, 2026

David Rothkopf joins Hugh Dougherty to confront Donald Trump’s latest attempt to make America’s darkest moments all about himself, from his grotesque rewriting of 9/11 to a Republican Party increasingly willing to lie, grovel, and look the other way to keep Trump in power. They take apart Trump’s bizarre “Trump-a-palooza,” the dysfunction and sycophancy consuming the White House, and the powerful forces already positioning themselves for the next chapter of the MAGA movement. Rothkopf connects Trump’s politics to the surging far right across Europe, Putin’s ambitions in Ukraine, and the possibility of another Russian intervention before the midterms. Meanwhile, Mark Carney’s rise as a symbol of resistance to Trump offers a striking glimpse at what American leadership used to look like. As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, Rothkopf delivers a sobering warning: the danger isn’t simply Trump himself, but the movement, money, and ideology waiting to carry his legacy forward.

I agree with everything David says about Trump. However, I really think we need to look internally at ourselves and our country as a whole. Trump did not appear out of thin air. He is a product of Americans society and as such, we all share part of the blame for his rise to power. Something is seriously wrong with the American psyche. Trump is just one problem- endemic violence, low education standards, structural racism, structural debt that is destroying the currency etc. etc.

David summed up the lessons from Trump & Bush in a meaningful way. 9/11 was a tragic loss for this country. I joined in the mourning the way I could. I remember after I watched the tradgey, taking my pre-schooler to his school, I went to a fast food joint to write (I'm a self-published author), to try to avoid the news. I objected to Bush's response to the terrorism. But I wanted to embrace those who lost loved ones. That was hard to do in Idaho. Recently, I've met a woman who had family who were there that day. I hoped her family survived. I think they did. She said it took a while to get a response to her. She had to go to work despite her concern for her family in New York. That would so difficult.
We need a president who has empathy and cares about others. And one who has the big picture in mind. We need someone like the Canadians prime minister.

Trump is actually the 911 of American democracy. When he decided to run for President, it was just like Bin Laden and the hijackers planning their deadly mission using aircraft. Trump's attack plan on America was to use himself just like those planes, supported by all the stupid people in America who are so easily lied to and will believe anything Trump tells them. Trump has hit the US Constitution, the US government, the US Supreme Court, the US Military, the US election system, and the US economy just like Bin Laden hitting the Twin Towers. Both had the same mission — Bring America down, and hurt it as much as possible. Trump wants to go even further and rebuild America in his own image just like his political idol and role model, Adolf Hitler, rebuilt Germany. Believe it.

Talking of far right parties in European countries, I like to point out that in Italy we now have a new political movement called Futuro Nazionale, which is further right of Giorgia Meloni's Fratelli d'Italia and whose leader is a retired army general, Roberto Vannacci. It aimes, among other delirious objectives, at remigration of all immigrants, be they legally or illegally in the country, and at the institution of a "mediterranean patriarchy", where women are subject to responsible men who "protect" them from the violence of other men! And the polls put Futuro Nazionale at 7-8%!!

A President that corrupt, that mentally sick, A fascist , a racist with no respect for the law, expulsing American citizens violently, embezzling funds and you can‘t vote him out.???…definitely something wrong with your political system . What a sham of a democracy!

There has been some speculation that Natalie and Trump have got up to some sort of sexual liaison . I think the $45,000 gift to Natalie proves this is a scurrilous suggestion and proves that notion wrong. He gave Stormy Daniels £130,000. That's what get for sex.
