What lives in complete darkness for millions of years? Blind salamanders that barely move for a decade, venomous centipede-like predators, and a cave sealed off from the world for 5.5 million years running on poison gas instead of sunlight. This is what evolution looks like when the sun disappears.

lindsay, my dad died august 20th very suddenly, and i just wanna say your content has been a lifeline for me. my dad liked learning about everything, he had a PhD and stuff and considered himself an “academic”, which he was, and i think he would have liked the videos you make. they have been a comfort to me in these past few weeks, helping me learn such cool things even without him here. i wish i’d showed him your videos before he passed. either way, i just wanted to say thanks.

I just say, "that we know of" about everything I'll be like, "I only have one can of corn…that we know of….in the pantry" and it makes it kind of scary because it makes it seem like more cans of corn could appear

In art class we had to make our own chimera by mixing a bunch of animals. I chose the Olm as my base cause 1.- they’re cute af and 2.- I didn’t want to draw eyes

If ancient caves and the lives inside of them is your thing, take a trip to Puerto Princeza in the Phillipines. I was there in 2017 and it is worth a visit! It is a protected area now, and the number of visitors pr day is limited in order to preserve the eco system inside. The trip inside is taken by a boat with a quiet engine, and there are no lights except the ones the guides are allowed to use. You get a headset with a prerecorded essay of the cave, and broad brimmed helmets with the warning "Don't look up. Bat droppings can be poisonous!"
It was,to me, an experience that broadened my horizons. I cannot recommend it enough.
