Why you still don’t understand the Green New Deal

Vox | September 5, 2025

Political news coverage tends to focus on strategy over substance, and that’s making it less likely that the public will agree on big policy ideas when we need them the most.

The Green New Deal is an ambitious proposal that outlines how the U.S. might begin transitioning towards a green economy over the next ten years. It includes steps like upgrading our power grid and renovating our transportation infrastructure. But most people watching news coverage likely don’t know what’s in the Green New Deal. And that’s because political news coverage tends to focus on strategy over substance, fixating on a bill’s political ramifications rather than its ability to solve a problem. That approach to news coverage is known as “tactical framing,” and research shows it makes audiences at home more cynical and less informed about big policy debates. The result is a cycle of partisanship, where solutions to big problems like climate change are judged on their political popularity rather than their merit.

In 2008, in the runup to the Presidential election, I watched a CNN TV show that debated, "Does Sarah Palin get too much free news coverage?" Result: Another hour of free Sarah Palin news coverage. In 2016, in the runup to the Presidential election, I watched a CNN TV show that debated "Does Donald Trump get too much free news coverage?" Result: Another hour of free Donald Trump news coverage. Don't we ever learn??

Only upper middle class or wealthier can afford solar panels and EV's especially if they need a truck for what they do even with tax credits. You have to pay even after a tax credit often $20k+ and many have too poor of credit and don't qualify based on income eligibility. If you need a fully EV truck good luck spending $40k+ on a used one meanwhile you can find a decade old truck for under $10k easily. The monthly payments for many EV's would be close to my rent which is $450 a month not to mention higher cost insurance compared to just a $50 minimum plan. They will get cheaper but I doubt under $10k for a fully EV truck or panels for only $100-$200 a month financed that will make your bill drop by close to that much. Only 1% of the vehicles registered on the road in the US are fully EV and I don't see even in a decade that being 20%. Its emotions and irrational thinking verses logic and it hurts the middle class and poorer people because their taxes subsidize the wealthier who can afford these things.

It's the Dark New Deal. When every car in just California is an electric car hopefully everyone in the state has a gas powered generator when the power goes out when the cars start recharging every night. But stupidity does not stop the fanatics of the Democratic party.

All this divisive politics is why one should just stay away from the news, these types of news styles on both the left and right serve to enslave and poison the minds of the masses and keep them preoccupied with pple shouting on TV screens while the capitalists continue to accumulate and keep the wealth of the nation and maintain a monopoly on the means of production. The news media, politicians and "think tanks" are all owned by the capitalists and all these reporters are doing is working hard for their paychecks, a broken system of politics and a prime example of the corrupting influence that capitalism can have on the political process!!!

I understand it , it stems from the Venezuela constitution . The green new deal will allow full government control. Read the Venezuelan constitution. It is the exact same thing word for word.

    The Green New Deal
During lecture, Ken has repeatedly offered many proposals in order to mitigate global warming but seemed very passionate and certain about specifically one. He suggested that electing legislators that would promote to tackle the rising global climate and overall take action of the Green New Deal’s proposals is one of the most effective ways to fight climate change. Meanwhile watching the video, “Why you still don’t understand the Green New Deal” I was surprised to learn about tactical framing and how it is utilized in the controversy of the Green New Deal in order to completely dismiss the significance of the policy and the ability it has to solve climate change. But rather instead, it focuses on legislators and how it will affect their reputation. I thought to myself how can politicians be so self centered that the fate of our life’s is completely ignored.

How many people that watched this video understand or know who’s quote this ?”The first lesson of economics is scarcity: There is never enough of anything to satisfy all those who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first lesson of economics.”

It's pretty weird to ask how popular the Green New Deal is before covering what's in it. Like, is the popularity being measured based on the name alone?

The GND is not a bill, it's not a legislation, it's not a policy proposal, it's delusional hippy fantasy where cars run on thoughts and prayers and every Mexican immigrant is an expert at building bullet trains and wind turbines.
