The Coming Kalshi Elections
Thank you Wildgrain for sponsoring. Turns out, waging bets on the outcomes of elections is as old as the Republic, but the current digital and disinformation context has some very sinister implications for democracy.

23:31 CNN will bring up them up they’ll just call them “prediction poles” in the middle of race results. It’s really nasty they normalized it so fast. So happy we are consolidated all our media under like 3 companies

Honestly, I don't see the supporters of the advent of AI or these digital betting platforms as anything more than people drunk on the possibilities of making a quick buck over helping the country. If there is anything we need to crush its this pall of apathy running over corruption, where people either get tempted and contribute to the rot, or think there is no way to stop it, so they decide to just sit back and adapt to it rather than fight it.

LOVING this full time-style The Rachel Maddow Show, 'Here's a thing that happened decades ago…W-w-w-w-hat? This program is about current affairs?! It's interesting though… OH POOP, this IS about current affairs!' format. Thanks for finding the patterns and making it digestible.
MSNOW needs to have a word with Rachel, now her weekly show is just a list of issues (this week, Trump's administration did <insert 50 point list of fu— mess ups) or responses to issues (Yay! look at the protests in each of these cities!) with an apology of an interview tagged onto the end of the show. I used to love her "The year is 1927…" shows, thanks for scratching that itch Leeja.
I hope Ireland is still treating you well.

It's very frustrating, knowing I work damn hard at my job, and realizing people that don't even need the money are making it so easily, barely getting off their ass. Then, when you think, "why can't I get into this?" You're reprimanded and told, "no, that's immoral and wrong" yet all these other people are doing it without a care in the world, and it seems like they'll get out before the hammer falls, allowing them to keep their winnings while everyone else is shamed for even complaining about the unfairness of it all.

If companies choose whose candidacy to fund based upon their likelihood of being elected rather than on their platform that they espouse, it demonstrates that regardless of their stated inclination, corporate donors bank on the belief that whoever takes their money will do their bidding.

I love you Leeja. Not just because you are smart, beautiful, informative, compassionate, full of integrity, Kind, and helpful for me to stay informed on a level much deeper than "this is what happened today", But on top of all that, there is just something sexy about the way you say "Bu byee!" 😛

It's so off putting seeing certain creators trying to shoehorn Kalshi into their content as if it's a reliable source of information and not a market controlled by whales behind the scenes. Like I love Gregory Johnstone's sketches personifying members of the regime and the horrible shit they're doing, but every time he makes that Kalshi spiel it just feels like it deliegitimizes the other points being made. Like it just undermines the integrity of the content

Trying to explain this to someone on my vol team with the Abdul for Senate team. I get the distrust from the powers that be who create these polls we are use to basing our plan of attack on seems dated, but you really are going to trust a speculative market on this over actual data? Like yall what are we doing?

Prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket need to be OUTLAWED. They need to be made ILLEGAL.

I remember seeing a kelshi or some prediction market ad that said “every weekend I see my friends turn into experts and scholars on (brand name)” and it disgusted me. Just because you are betting on things doesn’t make you more knowledgeable on the topic

There’s no mysticism to it. The reason these betting markets act as predictors is because people with non public information make big bets.
That shouldn’t just give you an icky feeling. Allowing it is just wrong.

its a waste of time when we hv an electorial college that obviouslt can vote againts our votes they I mean my very first election after achieving consciousness was the Al Gore Bush our teach let us vote her vote in grade school & everyone voted I think our teacher was trying to teach us the value of democracy and voting and that was like the worst year to be doing that lol. Gore we all knew was gonna win but he didn’t and then those assholes took down those the towers and they said it’s because terrorist say we don’t have a rain on our politicians I cant even make this up to irony is palpable ,….all those terrorist over there we’re upset with us because we didn’t have a more common sense way of raining in our divided states global crime syndicate that goes out in commits genocide many parts of the world like we have control over that we don’t even have control over our presidency especially during that year I thought that was a little uncouth however they weren’t the ones that brought down the towers nano thermite did and who has nano thermite do you ask the guy we didn’t vote for

“Don’t rely on polls as the means by which you decide how to vote” is one of the wildest sentences I’ve heard spoken. It’s sad that we have to be telling people that. Imagine being that media and politically illiterate. Like be so for real.

I’m confused do people actually decide who they’re going to vote for by looking at holes and bedding? I thought that people would actually research the candidates that are running rather than going by popular opinion.

See, that's the problem with sponsorships. You have one sponsor that asks for the line "there is nothing I love more than some warm comfort food on a cozy day" and another that immediately goes "really? like, REALLY? because that's not what WE heard. (nudgenudgewinkwinkhinthint) but hey, you do you. that IS our entire business model after all."
If you don't know which sponsor that one is, you haven't watched enough of Leeja's videos.
