The most unpretentious performer in rock n roll. Corky looks and sounds great. Thanks for sharing such great stories about one of my favorite bands growing up.
I still listen to Theme From an Imaginary Western several times a month especially for Leslie's 2 solos which for me are the best on any albumn I've ever heard… Kind of funny, its Jacks song, but I've heard a couple of live recordings of Jack singing it where he thanks and gives tribute to Felix, showing just how much respect he had for the man and how important he was in his life
Fantastic interview, I also think its pretty cool how Corky refered to you by name several times, that's not insignificant, I believe he's showing you respect by doing so.
Funny how he kept apologizing for "rambling", he wasn't even a little bit, to be able to recall such great stories with so much detail after all these years (and I'm sure more than a few "parties") is amazing

Great interview and impressive "Weekend World" reference there, essential Sunday lunchtime viewing on the current affairs of the British political week just passed, headbanging to the theme even though I never knew who it was at the time, but it rocked. Presented by the legendary Brian Walden, a man who gave MP's utterly justifiable interrogations. "Let's talk about policy". They still never gave a straight answer.

incredible interview and one of the best review of any album/band i have ever heard. I found that I have listening to this record all wrong for 55 years. One of my all time favorites. The explanation interpretation of the lyrics gave me a whole new perspective of these songs. Especially so for Imaginary Western. I guess I was just in love with the music without much thought in lyrics. It was quite a learning experience. Thank you for the work I can see you put into this Vinyl Monday subject.

Abigail, great video. But you said Mountain didn't really do something as good as Climbing. I'm listening now to theirs 1985 album 'Go for your life' , and it's freaking awesome. Check it out

Thanks, Abigail! Great episode and great interview with Corky Laing. I heard Mountain at the Denver Coliseum in about 1972. Tickets were $3.50. I'm a musician and I continue to learn things about songwriting, arranging, etc., from this album and from Nantucket Sleighride. Thanks, Mountain!. May the road go ever on. . .

Good job covering "Climbing". Must cover my fav "Twin Peaks" live album. It takes you LIVE into the arena. Nantucket Sleighride best LIVE journey on vinyl.

Mississipi Queen was the song I wanted my friends and I to play at the talent show in freshman year in highschool. The juicy riffs I got down, the bass part almost nailed, but that damn drum part. Hardest part of the entire song, we couldn’t play it, ended up not playing anything at all. Corky’s a legend and a beast on the drums. Felix was lucky to be the boss of an amazing roster of musicians, I wish I had his luck.

Very nice interview. It sounds like Corky really enjoys telling the stories of Mountain. Thought it was very respectful that he mentioned you by your first name as if it were just a casual conversation rather than just another interview. Also thought it was funny when Corky would admit that he's rambling.

I saw Mountain with Corky in Indy in 1985 open for Triumph. Saw Leslie West in ‘90 at The Vogue in Indy, and in ‘92 at the Slippery Noodle. Mississippi Queen was always my step-dad's dad's favorite song.

It was interestin' to hear Corky relate the story o' Leslie West 'n Al Capp havin' an argument durin' Mountain's first live gig on PBS. Mr. Capp also expressed his displeasure with John 'n Yoko at the bed-in for peace in Montreal, 1969. Al was a real jerk, makin' racist remarks 'bout Yoko just to irk John, who had to be restrained by Derek Taylor. The whole debacle was captured on film.

Great show & interesting interview. I remember the Weekend World theme (more of an in depth political interview programme than just news) but had forgotten it was Mountain. Will check out this album.

FYI, the album link from Corky's website is a deadlink

My first memory of hearing Mountain was in the 71' film Vanishing Point, which I stumbled across late one night on Tv in my teens. Still have a soft spot for that movie & Moutain. Ironically when i did a quick google for Mississippi Queen in Tv & movies VP didn't show up lol.

I was hardly ever miced. At best, they'd give me one mic on my snare and one on the right bass drum!! None of the 7 or 8 cymbals and none of the 6 toms!! Apparently, people heard me!
"Laird" is a Scottish version of the word, "lord".
"Harvey' probably refers to the invisible 6' tall rabbit, a pookah, in the Jimmy Stewart movie, "Harvey".

Twas in high school in Nashville. Me and my buddy saw Mountain on a Tuesday at Vanderbilt and the original Allman Brothers at MTSU gym in Murphreesboro. Guitar Heaven!
