Finally. I'm all for reparations and returning America back to the Native Americans, the original occupants of this land.
Some years ago, I started going back to the Unitarian Universalist church. They had a whole class on systemic racism and how to overcome it. But when it came to reparations, all the well-to-do white people waffled, as though giving millions of Black people money would be a huge financial burden. Not only that, every time our church had an opportunity to hire a minister of color, or other senior staff member, they found some stupid reason not to. I'm still a Unitarian Universalist but no longer attend that congregation for those reasons. As you can tell from my photo, I'm white as a cracker but I have a great grandparent who was Cherokee. I'm 2nd generation Irish on my dad's side. He thought women were less than 2nd class citizens and treated my mom, my sister and I like his personal slaves.
I will never claim that my experiences of life are similar to those of Black people, they aren't, I will never be treated by the police or white store owners with the amount of suspicion Black people endure every minute of every day. You all are my heroes and despite all the shit I've dealt with in my life as a woman, I'm just a privileged whiny white bitch compared to what you all have endured for literal centuries. And still are dealing with. As a democratic socialist myself, we need to heal the wounds we've inflicted on Native Americans, Black's, Asians, and Mexicans before we deal with anything else.

People do work hard, but many times they're underpaid and don't have benefits that used to be provided back when most of the workforce was composed of white men.
Many of white men and a minority of Black men, back in the 1950s had Union jobs. As more women and Black's got jobs outside of cleaning houses, waitressing, certain service jobs (women) or being janitors (men) or picking produce, both parties suddenly became anti-union, wages dropped all away around.
Butchers used to make decent wages, now corporations hire migrant labor and children, just so they don't have to pay a livable wage.
Today, the lowest paying jobs are done by Mexicans and those from Central and South America. If white men suddenly started doing those jobs, wages would suddenly increase, exorbitantly. So would it's value as a job.
When all the men were teachers, it paid better.

As soon as a job becomes a woman's job, it is suddenly devalued. Unless a woman becomes an "escort" and provides sexual services or entertainment.

And don't get me started on housecleaning or care for the elderly or sick and child care. Mostly because it doesn't "produce" something.
Men typically get jobs where they "produce" something and those jobs used to pay well.

Jobs that involve caring for others, usually assigned to women, typically don't pay well, unless you're a hospital administrator.

Today, the only jobs that pay well, outside of being a corporate attorney, and a neurosurgeon, are those in finance and private equity.

I keep going back to school, or trade school to get formal training in something I'm already good at, only to discover that it pays shit, has hours that don't work for a single mom, whose parents only help with child care in emergency situations, while coworkers have family that provide it for free. Add to that I was born with a genetic disease whose outcome is kidney failure and had horrible astigmatism and anemia. My child was diagnosed with ADHD and depression.
I wasn't the only single mom in this situation. Our society, for all it's lip service paid to the importance and value of children and parenting, does very little to care for either.
Children are commodities, future consumers and low wage workers that need to be obedient to our corporate masters.

I'm watching this two years after it was posted, after Trumps first year in office, after being elected in 2024. I've subscribed to your channel because I really enjoy your content.

I never watched Tina Fey or any of the shows she created. The bits I did watch because I was visiting someone who watched her shows, didn't appeal to me.

The second clip about Obama's time in office and the downright cruel and unnecessary obstruction of Mitch McConnell and the Republicans to thwart everything he did pissed me off, especially now that Trump is enjoying a second term in office, after four years of President Biden.

What is it with the conservatives and white people that they just can't accept Black people? And even when Obama bent over backwards to appease them, they gave no quarter, even cutting their collective noses to spite their face.
Of course, Obama ended up making concessions to his corporate donors which screwed over the poor and middle class.

We also found out that the ACA or Obama-care was a health care program created by the Heritage Foundation and that Mitt Romney instituted in his state. Yet the Republicans went on and on saying it was socialized medicine.

I'm hesitant to say this and it's just an observation, but it seems to me that there is a significant number of racist white people, many who will swear they're not racist because they have a couple Black friends; who are so angry about losing the Civil War and no longer being able to have Black slaves that they voted for Trump again knowing he would completely destroy this country.
All the MAGA racists feel like they're finally getting revenge for what the North did to the South and laughing while our country is burning down and economically collapsing, saying to themselves, "You took away our slaves, our ability to persecute Black people, and economically destroyed the South, so now we're going to destroy this country."

They don't really care about the price of eggs or not being able to find employment in rural communities because, thanks to Clinton, corporations decided to ship manufacturing overseas to Asian countries and exploit the people over there, they're just overjoyed that Trumps ICE agents are harassing, beating up, and/or killing Mexicans (anyone South of the border), the Hmong, Somalis, gays and lesbians, and innocent protesters in the North (Minneapolis).
Kristi Noem, the head of ICE, has hired every racist thug from the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, 3 Percenters, and actual neo-Nazis, given them inadequate training and supplied them with flack jackets, guns, pepper spray, and artillery to attack citizens in blue states. They claim that they're going after "illegal aliens" criminals who are robbing, selling drugs, and killing regular citizens. But they're not. They're going after innocent people, actual citizens, women, children, old people, the disabled, just to spread terror. No one would mind if they went after violent drug dealers and gang members but they're not. They're bullies, and most bullies are cowards who pick on those weaker than them. The Democratic party is doing very little except sending strongly worded letters to Republicans and Kristi Noem, or making speeches telling ICE agents to "get the fuck out" of our city.
God, this reminds me so much of my childhood. My dad was a bully who beat on my mom and younger sister, and rarely me, I avoided beatings by trying to be a saint. Then kids at school would bully and tease me. I've experienced it all my life and I know other women who've been violated and beaten by men. So every time I see or hear about another innocent person being harmed or killed by ICE, I seeth with impotent rage. By rights, I should get a gun and go after them. But the slightest attempt at retaliation, just like when I was young, will be met with more violence.

Black people are my hero because they have had to put up with this for hundreds of years. But so have women. Just because I'm white doesn't protect me from white men's violence. I've never been physically harmed by a Black man. So yea, it's racist, misogynistic mostly white men we have to fear.

Dreadlocks.
Years ago when I saw white women trying to make their hair do the dreadlock thing, I thought it was stupid. Why? Black people's hair is such that it naturally does that but white people have to intentionally f— up their hair in order to create dreadlocks and it never looks right. Then the producers of shows like "The Vikings" decided to depict the Norse people with dreadlocks, which is stupid.

You're right, it's okay if you like something from a different culture but please be respectful and don't appropriate something from another culture and profit from it, unless you get permission from that culture, realizing that some will be flattered while others will be upset.

Genuinely enjoyed rewatching these. I was sad to hear that you're tired of politics, but, I think I get it. I'm neurodivergent, temporarily unemployed for mental health reasons, and also lowkey nonbinary, but at the same time, I'm also a big, mostly good looking white dude who was assigned male at birth, so… like… yeah, I have a certain level of outwardly visible privilege by default, which many others do not have. All of which is to say that, here in this context… while I don't want to put words in your mouth or psychoanalyze you, it's easy for me to imagine that, for you as a black person (or for anyone with a comparable level of marginalization, whatever their specific demographics may be, particularly those who also have large platforms), political engagement might at times feel like the kind of thing that is so impossible to escape, so baked into every facet of your life, that rather than feeling like a cathartic use of time and attention as it usually does for me with my set of struggles, it can (one might imagine) feel more like a bit more like a societally-prescribed obligation to be met. I.e., the whole idea that to be not engaged with politics at all is itself a form of privilege, because for those who are marginalized, they can't not be impacted by at least some form of political issue or another. Anyway, that's not to assume that my take definitely explains your mindset or anything, but, that is what crossed my mind when I watched your "Why I don't make political content" anymore video, and: oof

At any rate, Boy Meets World is legit one of the best shows of all times, and I honestly would love more sitcom content from you. I have memories of being a kid and watching reruns of Friends alongside reruns of Living Single, trying to get into both of them and having an easier time of it with the white people. As an adult, I made it a point a while back to revisit a bunch of shows from my childhood and to watch every episode of each. Wanted to make sure I didn't miss out on anything that could've been potentially formative on me that I just wasn't present to absorb, if that makes sense. But I realized in the course of this video that, while I did that with Friends, it never even occurred to me to add Living Single to the list. I'm not really in a spot rn where I have the spoons to be watching literally any shows at all, YouTube pretty much takes up all the time I would otherwise have for that, but, if you happen to be looking for a sitcom to make a video about, just saying… lol. Anyway, I hope you're okay
