A fantastic observation of this very important album. I’ve listened to it thousands of times and seen this band (minus Jamie Muir) live three times
In 73/74. Of all the concerts ( many) I’ve ever seen, the Cross/Fripp/ Wetton /Bruford quartet will be forever my favorite. Wonderful review and outstanding work.

I have a first pressing Japanese edition of this album. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, it feels like it's 300 grams and the dynamic range is extremely intense. My house shook when the opening barrage of sound in LTIA1 hit.

Not many replies to your ask of "what's your favorite KC song". It is an inherently unfair question in that choosing one song somehow forces a diminishing all of the other songs, but the exercise of examining all the albums and their separate songs is a worthwhile one. Since my two favorite albums are the first two, I've gone back to look at each one with fresh eyes and a new perspective. The contrast between the first two songs on the first album is so dramatic. The 21st Century Schizoid Man is so unsettling and disturbing, and I Talk To The Wind is such a relief to the ears, but I Talk To The Wind is more than that. It is the song I find myself singing to myself more than any of the others. So I choose I Talk To The Wind as my favorite. Confusion will be my epitaph…

Oh, also, the nickname from my youth has somehow managed to stick around. I guess using it as a screen name doesn't hurt.

Thanks, Abby. A great video essay on one of my top 30 favorite albums of all time. And my second favorite KC album. I was blessed to be able to go and hear and see this band (well, minus Jamie) twice, touring in support of this album. Once in Central Park, and once at the New York Academy of Music. Even without Jamie, it was still magical. The music was even better live, not to mention their free improvisation pieces.

As a predominantly extreme metal, hxc punk and hip-hop listener I don't often listen to much prog rock but I do enjoy this KC record whenever I do listen to them.l

It seems that "Red" is your favorite Crimson record. Hard to disagree as that is my own second favorite. But the "Lark's Tongue" album is my favorite while 'Lark's Tongue in Aspic, Pt.1' is my favorite song. I missed seeing this band live (much to my chagrin), but I did see them at Hyde park with Family and the Stones (who were the worst of the three – Mick Taylor's first gig). I mention this because Donovan's 'Get Thy Bearings' was, I thought, exceptional as played byCrimson.. I would put "Court of .." in third place despite no 'Bearings. The album "Lark's Tongue" is my second favorite album of '73 with only Little Feat's "Dixie Chicken" sounding better in my brain. Jamie Muir's opening on kalimba just seemed magical. Hmm, like Sam Clayton in Little Feat, Muir appeared to add the secret sauce that allowed Crimson tunes to breathe.

25:32 – I always thought the crash cymbals sounded like pie tins. Maybe they were. My favorite KC album BTW. Though all my life I thought it was Lark’s Tongue in Aspic. Could have sworn. A personal Mandela effect example.

Larks, Starless and Red were more or less the same lineup; though the Belew era band certainly was the longest lived lineup. Also Court and Poseidon had mostly the same lineup. Anyway, excellent research as always Abby. Probably my fav Crimso album.

I bought Larks Tongues from an used record store one afternoon in 1981. I went home and was completely mesmerized by this album.
I told all my friends that this was the best album I had ever bought.
Not even one of my friends liked it all that much.
This album taught me that I was different from everybody else. And I was ok with that.

PART II IS A REFERENCE TO SACRIFICIAL DANCE?? It makes so much SENSE I haven't done much research into Larks but I was obsessed with Rite of Spring for a while so this connection to my fave King Crimson album really butters my bread. This is the first video from your channel I've watched and I'm definitely gonna watch more
