Forcing A Non-Drummer To Learn Drums In One Day

Drumeo | March 17, 2026

Years ago, people learned drums through private lessons, books, DVDs, VHS tapes, and drum clinics. Today, drum education has completely changed—you can learn almost anything straight from your phone. In this video, we’re asking the question: *Can a complete beginner learn to play drums using only a music lessons app?*

Our subject is Ron Jackson, host of @MusoraOfficial’s “Covers On The Spot” series. He’s never played drums—and he has no idea he’s about to take part in this experiment.

Using the Drumeo Method on the Musora App, Ron starts at Lesson 1 and works his way through the first Learning Path. Along the way, he tackles a quarter note beat, an eighth note “money” beat, an eighth note drum fill, and learns to move everything around the kit—preparing for his first full song performance.

Tune in to see if he can actually do it!

As someone who has only sat behind a kit a few times. I will say.. Drummers make it looks so easy. And even though you know it's not.. When you sit down. There is so much that goes into it. It can feel very overwhelming and powerful at the same time. But there is a very cool feeling that comes over you when you get it right and are in the music and not in your head. Maybe I'll finally consider giving it a real effort to learn. Nice video shilling your product lol. Looks like it works!

No bullshit, this is actually a very cool advertisement. For your brand, for your app and programs. for your community. I love everything about this. Love what you guys do.

This concept is so well thought! It gives beginners (myself included) a good portrait of what learning an instrument is all about. The fun, the support from the pals… Nice job once again.

As a drummer that has dabbled with teaching and always thought i didn't like it, I experienced something while watching this and seeing someone learn to play drums that brought a tear to my eye and a huge smile on my face. Seeing someone passionate about learning and the process of them hammering it out may have changed me and I think i might want to start teaching again. This video was far beyond my expectations and was just awesome!

You inspired me to start a couple of years ago and I have dabbled, I wanted to see this video to confirm that yes, it can be done! Im 57 years old and did not think it was possible but it is!

Answer: yes! Musora is what got me started on drums last year and it was the perfect starting point for me.

Ron did great for his first day playing drums!!

Once your get over the corrordination of all your limbs, you can can learn a simple beat in 10 minutes the rest is just practice, I only started learning 2 years ago at 39 I wish I started sooner, it's so satisfying playing and something you can improvise parts and play around

This is such a cool way to show off the app! Would actually like if you did more of these to see how people do it. I’ve been considering drums recently but I’d have no idea where to start on a kit – real or electric. Here he’s able to step into something already set up. What do you recommend a newbie do?

I really want to take the challenge because I love the drums but don't think I could learn at all. I have zero musical background…

Awesome dude 😎 been playing guitar for 17 years and when I learn new songs, I learn it in parts and then put it together. TO THIS DAY I still struggle on the transitions the first few plays. So this dude is a super fast learner imo. I suppose having great coaches helps too 🤘🏻

You don´t actually want to overload yourself like this when learning anything – people need to sleep for example, that´s when things move to different parts of the brain, and many times in the morning you can play things you were not able to play the day before. So yeah, as many people have written in comments here, this was a 20 mins ad, so I understand why they forced him to sit there for 5 hours, but normally you don´t actually do it like this. 🙂

LETS GO RON!!!!! YOU KILLED IT! I actually mean that! My first time was on loverbpys drum kit and I was 5! You learned way better than most of us in a days time

That was great! Mess up and just find the 1 and keep going. Also, he's playing so soft but the first time I ever sat behind the kit I was shocked at how loud it was barely hitting anything. Hard feeling to get over.

I talk about this app all the damn time , I started off here and it’s going smooth …. 2nd year playing and I’d give this a shot for sure 🤘🤘🤘🤘

If you want to play along and already play drums, trying playing along on bass. Following the chord changes of the different musical bits is fun.

Wow! This is incredible. What about someone, however, who has zero music understanding? My 15 year old daughter wants to learn drums but knows nothing about music

I remember trying to learn drums as a kid. I quickly gave up due to awkwardness but later realized I should have switched the kit around or learn to play open handed because I’m left handed. A part of me still wants to learn even though I’m pretty old now. 😅

What an amazing video, loads of laughs, plenty to learn, and such a supportive team. It must have been great fun spending hours with everyone there, encouraging one another.

I’m a huge fan of drumming, but I’ve never actually taken any lessons. Maybe after watching Ron, I’ll sign up for the app and give it a go.
I have to say, Domino is absolutely brilliant, seriously veryyyy cool teacher.

This video turned out really well (one of my favourites) and definitely deserves far more views. Maybe on the Musora channel, you could get artists to try instruments they’ve never played before. That would be hilarious.

Great video, and I must say, rudiments are important, but when you start out, you just want to learn to play a song you like. My drum teacher never explained to me the importance of rudiments, but wanted me to practice them, after a couple of lessons, I quit and learned on my own. This video is the approach every drum teacher should start with, or if they are to make you practice rudiements, explain why they are important.

Great video, !!! will share on my FB 🙂
