    My Ranking

    1. The Open Door (2006)
(This and Fallen are pretty much interchangeable to me but I will say this is a bit more consistent and Amy’s vocals are better on this album as well.)
    2. Fallen (2003)
(Despite some questionable Production choices, this is still a classic debut album and still hold up almost 25 years later.)
    3. Sanctuary (2026)
(Their best release in years. I’m shocked on how great this album ended up being. The 2nd half is a little repetitive but the songs and vocals are the best from the band in a long time.)
    4. Evanescence (2011)
(Their self titled album and was originally in the Top 3 until their recent album. I still love this thing but again it does get repetitive at times. Still a great release.)
    5. Synthesis (2017)
(By far their most underrated album and sadly their most forgettable. I didn’t even know this album existed. Still some bangers but nothing here really stands out.)
    6. The Bitter Truth (2021)
(An overhated album but still their worst in my opinion. Some of the Amy’s weakest singing performances and the bands’ weakest songs are on here but there’s still some really strong music on here. Not a great album but no near as bad as people make it out to be either.)

A great discography with only 2 misses.

Agree with your ranking except I’d swap Fallen for The Open Door. Both great albums with Fallen having more highlights but the Open Door is so consistently good top to bottom.
Sanctuary is a surprise as to how good it is.

Already got tickets for their tour in Michigan in early August and I cannot wait even though I consider myself a casual fan. Going for Spiritbox lol. Kinda sad Poppy is playing the dates Spiritbox is not because it would have been cool to make End Of You the encore song.

Love Fallen but don’t think it ranks as perfection for me, the best songs are awesome of course, but some are really patchy and just get skipped.
Open Door would be my 1

It's funny 'cause Bring Me To Life never did anything for me but Going Under is, in my opinion, the perfect pop metal song. Still gives me goosebumps.
Also totally agree with your ranking, Sanctuary is an all-timer.

    My quick ranking
    1. Open Door – I think their best album as a whole. However it does suffer from singles choices imo.
    2. Fallen – For me a bit better than Evanescence album but mainly because I think it has one of the best singles collection of any album. But for some reason I don't really come back to the other songs of this album. Also maybe it is because this album had people working with multiple directions who knows.
    3. Evanescence – I think it sligthly edges out Sanctuary for me. Suffers from the lead single a lot tbh. It is def a second listen album as most of thee songs are not catchy at first listen. Again feels like a complete album for me like Open Door. If I had to listen to betweeen this and Fallen occasionally I would prob go with this instead. So def can change with Fallen.
    4. Sanctary – A lot of the older sounds come back with this. So many great songs start to finish. Album opener got me concerned a bit but after that all the songs were pretty solid. Rapture and Calm Down my favorites.
    5. The Bitter Truth – This album is not bad but def a mixed bag. Wasted on you and Use my voice are kinda hard to listen to for me. But heavier songs like Broken Pieces Shine make up for it. Not much else to say other than production could have had another touch.

I’ve seen plenty of reaction channels discuss Evanescence over the years, but your analysis stood out. It’s clear you have a strong understanding of musicianship, and I really enjoyed how you covered their history, explored their sound, and pointed out both the standout moments and the shortcomings. It was thoughtful, balanced, and genuinely informative. Well done 👏

Love this band one of my favorites growing up and still love now always felt it was offensive that the bitter truth produced Amy Lees vocals so low in the mix really takes down the whole album excited to hear this new one

@1:50 To the mate presenting, sorry to sound like a gatekeeper, but if he finds Dark Tranquillity belonging in the same sentence with all the pop bands in that sentence… mate, try their basslines to begin with, not to mention guitars, drumming and the vocals. Also DT specifically have some of the best lyrics in metal. Come on! Seriously?

I think you nailed my exact positioning for these albums. I'm currently on listen 5 or 6 of the whole album of Sanctuary and haven't had an album in a long while that I listened to front-to-back without skips for each of those 5–6 rounds. I'm very impressed.

real ones remember when 'My Immortal' and 'Bring Me To Life' were on the Daredevil soundtrack, and when they played 'Bring Me To Life' in the movie it would switch between Daredevil and Elektra based on whether it was Amy or Paul singing at the moment. Cinema.
(side note: bring back edgy butt rock soundtracks for action movies)

Evanescence holds a special place for me as one of the first bands I got into before getting into metal proper. Fallen is still their best and that album was the soundtrack for high school for me. The Open Door was also great. After that there was a fall off for nearly two decades. This new album though I really liked and I think is their best since the Open Door. It definitely brought me back to that 2000's era.

Wow. What a bold move. For putting Sanctuary next to Fallen and for not trashing The Bitter Truth like so many people, for that unique take alone, I'm subbed! 🤘

I'd shift The Bitter Truth position to join Fallen and Sanctuary. Evanescence's self tittled record would fit higher – below the perfctn. Otherwise, the whole ranking are great

I haven't listened to Evanescence since the self-titled and decided to listen through the album here on YouTube while bored at work and was shocked at how much I liked it. I love the mix of symphonic elements and NIN inspired industrial rock. I'm actually thinking of picking this up when I'm not broke. 😅

I loved how a band like Evanescence helped get so many into heavier music, and while I am not the biggest fan of the band, I have to give credit where credit is due. I saw Evanescence play in 2011 at Rock the Range in Winnipeg Manitoba, and Amy Lee easily had the best vocal performance of the festival.

    1. The Open Door = IMO, the moodiest/darkest album and great amount of dynamics overall. Love that about this one!
    2. Evanescence = This one to me is the most energetic sounding album! Something that I really look for!
    3. Fallen = Overall great debut and the blueprint for this music endeavor. Nostalgic for me.
    4. Sanctuary = A mixture of older and newer elements that makes a pretty cohesive album. The darker/heavier vibes are back!
    5. Lost Whispers = (YOU FORGOT THIS ONE) Not one bad song on this compilation (B Sides mostly), but there's a reason why these cuts didn't make it onto the final studio albums.
    6. The Bitter Truth = I honestly think 2020 pandemic had some negative impact on the songwriting process. The songs to me lacked that spark they had on the first 3 albums.
    7. Synthesis = I respect the reworkings of classic tracks, but I don't consider this an official studio album for that reason alone (only a couple of new tracks).
