New Metal Monday – MASSIVE Release Week For New Metal Albums!

The Heavy Metal Journal | September 7, 2026

I always refer to the period between September and November as “The Months of Doom.” Not because of the subgenre but because of the sheer amount of new albums being released on a weekly basis. This week I have 7 albums and 1 EP to talk about!

The long orchestral ending of The Dark Poem part III absolutely ruined the album for me – it feels kinda dull. But Part II is almost certainly going to be AOTY for me – there are new releases in my favorite subgenres that are stunning (Archspire, Gorod, Inferi, Psycroptic, Carrion Vael) and Devin's masterpiece, and frankly Green Carnation was always that "yeah, it's fine, but never coming back to it" kind of band for me. But that Part II is simply hypnotic. It's already far far on top of my yearly scrobble statistics. I simply can't resist to play it again. And once it plays I have hard times to stop.
