Brodie Buttons, “King Brown,” // GemsOnVHS™
What would a trip to Australia be without a story about a deadly, poisonous beast? In true Steve Irwin fashion, Brodie gives us the dangerous tale we needed. No, it isn’t the drop bears this time, it’s the story of the King Brown, the baddest snake around. This big monster is known for its aggression, and loves to hang out under your house. Probably couldn’t take Brodie in his wellington boots though, which he apparently has been wearing for two weeks straight. Man, I love Australia. Folks down there, they know how to have a laugh. They know how to treat a stranger, and they know how to play some folk music.
We sat around the campfire as the sun went down, the whiskey flowed, the miniDV camera died and the banjo sung out. This is how acoustic music is supposed to be played, heard and enjoyed. This is how stories are best told; by campfire, with good friends new and old, over some good drinks. Brodie and the gang wouldn’t have felt too out of place in my backyard in Tennessee, I reckon, or yours, wherever you are. Cus’ that’s how all good people enjoy a nice summer evening.
If I ever go back, I’m gonna come find you again Brodie! And if you’re ever in America, you and your family are my esteemed guests.
That’s Bobby Dazzla on the fiddle, an absolute gem of a man.

We have a tradition of folky songs that extend from the Scottish Irish decent that became part of this country . This is pure Australiana. It comes from the same folks but they also settled here as well. I wish more young Australians knew these original sounds

I remember when the Ohio State University sent me down there, to run pigs through mazes. But the pigs needed straw and I was told that the brown snake really like straw so I used to go out there when I was young and tap the straw with a pitchfork just to make sure that he didn't take us in Australia

I think it's pretty rad some Aussies love old time American folk music. Euro-Australian culture formed from similar constituents about the same time as America. I reckon if you look back in time you'll find similar musical roots and songs, minus the ol' 5-string. I like to imagine the banjo traveled to the other side of the planet and met a long estranged brother in the Aussie's fiddle, and the finest pairing of two instruments reunited sparked a revival and ongoing interest in some of the greatest music ever made.

This is some of the finest old Appalachian music I've listened to in quite a spell. If I didn't know better, I'd say it sounds as if it's coming from the head of a holler in Letcher county Kentucky. Anywho,… Cheers from Kentucky..

He still made the words fit
With his Lilts and little bits
Up and down
That nasty old king brown
From steeple high
To the deepest dug outs around
Lost and found
That nasty king brown
The meanest baddie in town

Hey Anthony, dont want to bother you, but if you were filming on this trip as much as you did with the Wallopers, i wonder what other songs of Brodie you have in store. He seems like such genuine dude and i love every bit of footage i can find of him:)

Two finger style playing banjo 🪕 not simple. Aussie folk music 🎵 is pure and entertaining. Sounds like mountain music in America.
