That Voodoo CD was such a pain to clean but it was worth it for the bit.

Let me know your favorite D’Angelo song/album/related thing in the comments!

I grew up listening to the Beatles, Stones, and Prince. Listened to Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana, and System of a Down in high school (in Indiana.) Spent 15yrs worth of money on a record collection… Voodoo is my all time favorite album. And as I age past 40 years old, it's distancing itself from the rest. Truly a genius.

Between the "Eurocentric" pronunciations of Black vernacular & the whole thing about D'Angelo singing "funny" on certain songs, this dude should NOT be reviewing artists and creatives. (at least not POC – i shudder to think what you did with the Prince "review"!) Maybe stick with simple radio pabulum or better yet, video games.

Man I go through a lot of music phases from country to hip hop but Voodoo has had me memorized for like 6 months… D’Angelo is one of the best musicians of all time straight up…

Bravo my friend!! You truly are a music aficionado. Your analysis of Lo’s short but brilliant music career is beyond reproach. He truly is a musical savant. With beings such as him you don’t get a lot but when it comes it is true art. I read an article in GQ in which it mentions Lo’s battle with the spiritual influence of what one may see as the forces of light versus those of darkness. Some of his grooves can come from the Pentecostal church and others from Parliament Funkadelic…ya dig! What ever the case may be, I will be happy when the battle comes to a truce. Music truly is my sanctuary and I would love to hear a near album before my last breath. As I said earlier, you put in work in your analysis of the work.

My latest project is to recreate "Spanish Joint" on the ukulele (as a part of my vocal study/training). When I started to dig into D'Angelo's work deeper I began to appreciate his mastery even more. His songs are very musical and polished to perfection similar to more well-known artists like Miles Davis or Prince.

I know this sounds corny but I am so grateful for this video. Always wanted to have a better understanding of what D'Angelo had to deal with. He really is a genius. I made sure I DID get to see him front row on Black Messiah tour. I feel like you could still tell that he is a shy guy

i feel deeply apologetic+grateful for the fact that 1: i've seen D'Angelo and the Vanguard live and 2. i had no idea who they were and just wandered into the show at a festival. i went from "i'll see 10 minutes of this show then head back to camp to get some sleep" to "i will not leave until i see their sound guy leave the booth". just, wow, what a stage presence and tight band
