I mean, not “allowing” Canada to seek free trade agreements with other countries is a non-starter so it really doesn’t matter how petty one thinks French words on cereal boxes are. It would be unacceptable anyway but you’d have to be a moron to sign such an agreement with a bunch of people who have repeatedly violated the agreement themselves. It would be utterly stupid to make serious concessions when they’re not unlikely to break the agreement anyway

Carney is trash!

I think of Carney a lot like Obama, in that they are mainline Liberals, but way more popular than other politicians of their ilk because they are uniquely talented at politics itself. Obama was a very talented Speaker, and Carney is very good at the wheeling and dealing that's very common in parliamentary systems

This is a miss for sure. Typically like your vids on this subject, I appreciate your more conservative perspective. I’m British, so forgive the imposition of my discussion of your politics. I can see the cynical interpretation of everything Carney does dripping from every statement, that’s not to say I’ve cleverly seen through you, I think you intend it that way. But, I think this inclination is leading you to an incredibly shallow interpretation of the language thing, and a one-dimensional view of the overlying “Canada versus treacherous America” thing. Firstly, the language thing if true (I would believe Carney over Trump for obvious reasons) is not important because it super matters to the people of Canada or Quebec, it is important because it is a power play from a US government that is clearly trying to erode the idea of Canada’s sovereignty. You may believe this is a petty issue but that is because you are short-sighted here, the fact that it is a petty issue is why the US administration did it, they picked something small enough to both insult and degrade Canada’s national identity betting that Canada would back down and accept it to avoid pain and therefore enforce their overall belief that the US should have a “sphere of influence” over the entire Americas. Please don’t anyone interpret that as a naive assumption that the US didn’t already de facto have one in a sense, but this is more of a Russian style “sphere of influence”, a more muscular, imperialist and controlling one. This obviously goes along with the idea that Canada must subjugate its own trade sovereignty to the US. It’s funny because a conservative mindset should resonate with the importance of this very strongly, which leads me to think that you’re blinkered on the subject, such that you can’t even stand up for an obvious conservative, and patriotic value. I think there is also just an overall lack of any attention to the US side, and the clear and genuine efforts they have made on this front. Does it not matter to you that your Prime Minister is being called a Governor? Does it not matter that the US has repeatedly talked about how Canada is basically a state? How it wants the benefits of being a state without actually being one? Do you think it’s all trolling? Or do you think it might be good to stand up for yourself and every bit of your sovereignty, even if it’s those darned Liberals doing it and reaping the easy rewards from the Canadian electorate? I found this video really naive tbh. I still find you very intelligent and thoughtful, even when it comes to your political thoughts in Canada and elsewhere, just not on this occasion.

The one thing about the trade talks I’m amused by is how the whole thing is being framed as a betrayal of a deep relationship when my entire life has been filled with talk from Canada about how we (the US) is an export market that’s held in contempt. While the Europeans are far worse on that front (on top of just having racist about it) I don’t get why we’re supposed to be sentimental about a partnership that’s been sold as a partnership of convenience in the first place. I’m only 30 and I have a frankly indifferent opinion of Canada. I can understand why Trumps is openly hostile, even if I was over his shenanigans a long time ago. Reap what you sow and what not, just like Trump sowing the grounds for his impeachment.

I don't think that Aaron Mate, who regularly shares Russian propaganda and is an Assad Regime apologist, is not the best representation of mainstream leftism. He's a Tankie at best.

JJ I expected more. I get that you are a Canadian and it's difficult to be impartial, but you did a terrible job of addressing the actual numbers and conditions of trade. I don't expect you to just regurgitate high level talking points. Try again and explain the differences between protectionist policies and USDA farm bill. There's so much interesting content available for you to cover.

As an American, it has always seemed crazy that prime ministers in parliamentary systems can just call elections early whenever it is politically advantageous for them. It feels a bit undemocratic

Viewing this as an Australian/New Zealander with the whole trade war with Canada and the US, Canada with Carney in charge appears to be one of the few countries in the world where the hard right isn’t gaining in popularity.
Living in Australia, One Nation are making massive inroad where people are tired of the establishment which doesn’t appear to be the case in Canada.

"Vote me to %#&@! Trump." is an irresistible offer in today's Canada. As a US citizen, I'm a little envious.
@MrMultiPat
September 5, 2026 at 5:45 pm
As a Canadian leftist seeing the rise of Carney and the slide of the NDP into irrelevancy has been a sad arc to watch in our politics. But it would be much more depressing to see Poilievre elected and watch as we descend into the same type of politics as the Republican party in the US, so I guess I'll take it.

A JJ trip to Alberta before the referendum would be neat. I miss those city tours.

Pollievre is a one-trick pony whose trick can't work when Trump is a threat. But it's what the 20% of anti-Canadian Canadians want, so they're stuck with him.

He thinks of the box, not in a traditional Canadian politician way! He has a vision extended far beyond any past PM had in Canadian history. He has real world experience in all 3 continents. Exactly what we need now!

10:45 when discussing Carne with his admirers, none of them have actually managed to point out anything he has accomplished.
Instead, they are just completely enamored with his empty rhetoric

The only thing even close to hockey in terms of having the power to unite Canadians is feeling happy we're not American and telling the world we're not Americans and talking about how insane Americans are. Carney can do very little besides telling the US to F off and he'll keep winning.
@MrMultiPat
September 5, 2026 at 5:45 pm
I agree with you in that I don't think the Albertan separatist referendum will pass, or really even get close. But I also don't think we should hand waive it away entirely, because things can change in politics in short periods of time.
@norwegianblue2017

I believe Carney will have the greatest fall in approval rating of any Canadian PM in recent memory. Getting approval early on is easy. Trudeau and George Bush Jr. had very high ratings early on. But a couple of years down the road, when the economic reality has set in, he is going to be hated.

A lot of Canadians hate the United States now, and it surprises me this channel seems not to.
I am a US citizen and even I dont like this country anymore. Its a country ran by bullies and man children.
The people that voted in these unqualified, corrupt, and immature boys are still going to be around.
The United States deserves to be isolated and without allies of any kind. It should be treated as a chaotic, untrustworthy, and bi polar animal with rabies. It stands for nothing and has no morals.

Why do you call Carney Canadian politician? He is an American dem who uses his Canadian passport to fight Trump. This is why he is so unusual for Canadian political scene, the battle against Trump is his major topic, he appointed American Dem party official as a PM office head.

I find it surprising that you talk about Carney "doomsaying" about trump when trump has explictly, in no uncertain terms, repeatedly argued for the annexation of Canada, which you omitted in this this video for some reason.
He has said, repeatedly and explictly, that he wants canada to be the 51st state. He is not joking., he is not lying. He wants us to be economic slaves to the US

Carney will almost certainly be Time’s Man of the Year this year
Poilievre was the perfect person to run against Justin Trudeau, but is a poor match vs Carney.

The conservatives are in a bind. It’s clear Pierre is no longer a viable option and it’s just a cancer on the party since Carney can gain one conservative vote for every progressive vote he loses to the NDP. I don’t like the conservative party, especially under Pierre, but if they want any hope in chance to regain faith in the electorate, they have to eject the far right culture warrior aspect of the party. Aka maple maga.

It speaks as a failure of the Canadian people who are far too immature and broken to be considered a sovereign people if Trump holds that much sway over their emotional state.
