The part of this I enjoy is that none of the food he has eaten looks appealing. He has nothing to say about it except "it's good" as he eats like a slob. And he pushed away everything he had that made him human to enjoy this slop.
He is turning into a pig because he was living like one.

In all seriousness, this series has a lot of parallels with Kafka's "Metamorphosis". Both protagonists are treated like creatures until they're quite literally transformed into what they're conditioned to recognize themselves as.

Everything is decaying alongside Jim's physical and mental state. He started with mouth-watering dishes, and now he has one pathetic sausage. He used to hand out wads of cash and now he only has a few dollars.
