Lac du Flambeau Walleye Harvesting 10-4-2019
The William J. Poupart, Sr., Tribal Fish Hatchery has been in operation since 1936. The hatchery raises walleye, trout, musky and sturgeon to fry and fingerling size for stocking on and off reservation waters. Fathead minnows and white suckers are also raised as a food source for the game fish.
The hatchery begins its work in the spring by setting nets in reservation waters to collect eggs and sperm. Fertilized eggs are brought to the hatchery to be incubated and later stocked into ponds or lakes as fry. Fingerling production continues in the ponds throughout the summer and fall, and all fish are harvested from the ponds by October.
Each year, the Tribal Fish Hatchery releases tens of thousands of fish in waters both on and off the reservation. The video shows fingerling being harvested and stocked.

Good to see the tribe putting walleye back into the lake for food for the people when they get bigger.
