🎧 About This Video
The Dare makes music that sounds like LCD Soundsystem – and everyone has noticed. But behind the throwback synths and sweaty irony is something deeper: a revival of early-2000s chaos, crafted for a generation drowning in curated aesthetics.

Pulling from the bloghouse scene, electroclash, and dance-punk, Harrison Patrick Smith isn’t just copying a sound, he’s curating a feeling. To some, it’s derivative. To others, it’s the most fun music has been in years. This is the story of What’s Wrong With New York?, the indie sleaze revival and why The Dare might be the perfect soundtrack for a world that’s falling apart, but still dancing.

Well, LCD Soundsystem sounds like a lot of things as well. Try to figure out the difference between “Drunk Girls” and “White Light/White Heat”, from VU, specially the live versions of the latter.

Thank god this wasn’t a coherent aesthetic at the time, it makes it—at least in retrospect—feel something approaching authentic: the come down after the 90s but before these end times.

i am a big fan of your video. Recently, iconic rock star died. can you make a video about Ozzy Osbourne and his band Black Sabbath like a tribute video.

Honestly, he's a genuinely insanely talented electronic music producer. His remix and collaborations have all been absolute fire. But I dunno why he tries to settle into that lcd soudsystem style that just doesn't play to his strengths.

Let's not overanalyse The Dare too much – he's just a low rent generic knock off. No need to waste time with this total fraud. It staggers me that anyone bothers listening to his shite output.

holy shit, this is everything i've been thinking about lately. it feels like every music video, song, photoshoot, has been a re-imagining of past eras to the point that no new avenues are being taken. it's a loop. because nostalgia causes so much intense emotion, it's often the easiest route to take when creating something, rather than pushing boundaries or taking a new avenue. i am genuinely fearful that we won't have anything to show for the 2020s in the way of culture, fashion, and music/art due to everyone copying the past, rather than looking to it for inspiration to create something that stands on its own as a time capsule of our time.
