Drugs being chemicals that can mess with the dopamine levels in the body I cannot accept drugs itself does not cause addition.

Addiction exists independently of drugs. No matter what it is you are addicted to, the addiction is a means of coping with trauma. If you can learn to cope with the trauma, the addiction will go away on its own – even drug addiction.

Addiction is core to the capitalist society. Addiction increases consumption, which grows GDP. We are addicted to sex, shopping, gambling, social networks, and all of this makes money. This is an epic scale hypocrisy, how some addictions are encouraged and rewarded, while others are criminalized.

Agreed. As a recovered alcoholic and retired military behavioral health SGT, I can attest that having the right group of people around you during recovery is key. AA was a lifesaver for me, and I will be forever grateful for the program and its community!

I can't believe I only just discovered this video. You just started the ThatJoeScott website with the comedy sketch tournament, which is how I found it. THANKS!! With my knowledge of this subject, I was thrilled with your knowledge of the truth. This video should be required watching for all high school and college students, then again for anyone entering law enforcement, criminal justice, or a profession in drug treatment.
I suffered through heroin addiction for 10 years (2003-2013), plus another 7 years using drugs daily before I even discovered H. Went to half a dozen detoxes and rehabs, countless shrinks. Lost so much, I still can get depressed in a millisecond if I think about it. I finally kicked it after getting on methadone. Unfortunately that brought it's own issues. But, I haven't used in 10 years. That being said, my addictive behaviors are still evident. Gaming and movies are what hit my "reward center" now. And if I'm honest with myself, it is a problem. And that is more evidence that the drugs themselves are not the only issue. But, In the case of heroin (or other drugs that cause withdrawals) the drug itself does need to take a lot of the blame. Because of it's inherent physical addictiveness. If someone takes a legal prescription home, and uses it long enough, they will experience withdrawal if they stop. For heroin users, after a while, hitting the reward center is not even the goal. It's just not experiencing withdrawals. I can't tell you how terrified I am of withdrawals, to this day. It's a hell I can't put into words. Having an instant fix is part of what makes heroin so insidious.

Been an addict almost my whole life…got a super addictive personality. Got mental health problems and ptsd. Was addicted to crack and heroin now fentanyl. Trying to get clean now. It's so hard. I feel for the rats going thru withdrawal. Opiates are a different demon because it's mental and physical with the withdrawal. Withdrawal is horrible. Found high doses of gabapentin relieves the withdrawal until my tolerance gets low enough to take suboxone. That's my current plan. It's difficult tho cuz I have a pain disorder that always brings me back to my prescribed oxys. Addiction is hell. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. This video made me feel a little better about myself and the isolating partis true…I do isolate cuz of anxiety and depression. One thing about your video tho is I've read AA & NA don't have very good success rates statistically. I know when I went the talk about drugs left me itching to go get high. Wish me luck 🤞

I am at buprenorphine program for about 3 years (earlier I was taking buprenorphineon my own without doctor supervising me). But I didn't take heroin out other hard opioids, nevertheless withdrawal was pretty rough and without buprenorphine I couldn't (and didn't want) to go through it. But I have to say one thing … I like drugs, especially depressants. Opiates feels for me like something made exactly for me. Without family I wouldn't stop because I wouldn't want to. It's too good.

H.F… I want to cuss but I don't. Thank you, Joe Scott…
I want to share this video with people soon and hopefully convince them to listen for once… 💕
I'm holding back tears watching this, but want to comment before I move on and forget for who knows how long. As my addictions shift around to more socially acceptable ones, I've been realizing part of me is still so sad. So many people don't understand where the true issues with addiction lie, and want to believe "It couldn't happen to me." "It couldn't happen to us." a loved one or themselves…
I've been pulling myself out of about a 6-10yr funk, which became more difficult after spending roughly 8m in jail (DUI.s. I needed to be stopped before I really hurt someone other than myself) and now being treated like "Just an addict" while trying to rectify my poor mental health (I don't think of anyone as that, but the attitude put forth from others make it clear they do). I'm a big softy, used to be a "perfect kid" in a lot of people's eyes… I'm not even 30 yet either 🥲 as if it matters much.
The end all be all, if you see this comment and stuck with it: Your videos have helped me a lot recently(like few months) (maybe some NDT and others too, but started here). Even being educational and entertaining as many of them are, they bring out a part of me I missed and I feel like the gears that keep this thing moving forward are moving in my head again.
Sorry for the odd word choices and rambling. I'm a tad sleep deprived but decent otherwise. Ty again for the content, and I look forward to more.

I've heard that when trying to quit smoking cigarettes its ideal to stop your "ritual" like (can't remember specifics or technical terms) times that you smoke, what I mean is your morning cigarette, after meal cigarettes, after sex cigarettes. Since your using those as a reward of like a special occasion almost it reinforces the habit making even more. The same spies to heroin, I've allegedly struggled with opiates over the years and I've trained myself to think I need to get high before I go to work, even if I'm not withdrawing or whatever. It's like when you take your kid out for ice cream when you go on a boring shopping trip and he/she then thinks going shopping means ice cream after. I hope this makes sense or brings a bit of a new understanding to addiction.

I don’t have any drug addictions, but growing up with a sober alcoholic father and a brother in law with a previous heroin addiction makes me realize that the “war on drugs” is not the answer.
