It's important to consider the social landscape and what they/people HAD to do for attention. We almost got past this as a society, however social media culture had a lot to do with keeping people on their identity based soap boxes, however they saw themselves. So it kind of locked people into not only behaving that way, but also expecting the same soap boxes represented in media (which the media gladly delivers). This also is connected to cable television.

I just want to note that many of these clips are old, and in those times, social media didn't exist. It was "find a way to be in-your-face while standing on your identity until you're famous"

We are all definitely tired of it, but it's important to nod to those who came before us, who lived in a social economy that we do not relate to any more today. It is old because it is old, just given one last breath again through social media and hyper representation baiting in the media.

I'll shut up now. I'm just bored

Sarah Millican. Her comedy is mostly stupid vulgar shit but damn is it good. I rewatch her shows often and even compilations of said shows, she has this way of saying stuff and is just so naturally funny.

I’ve studied comedy all my life and have heard many theories on the this. The best I have heard is that because there are more men in comedy, they have to be REALLY good to make it big, there are plenty of not-so-funny male comedians, but they just don’t make it to the mainstream. The lack of women in the space, means they are more likely to get a pass and be forced into our feeds

    Weird, possibly little known fact..
Back in 2008, there was a "reality" TV show called Reality Bites Back.
Michael Ian Black was the host (extremely funny) and Amy Schumer was on it, pre-fame.
They had to yank it from the air for some reason, I think they ripped other shows off, but…Amy was actually endearing and dare I say it…a bit timid. But she had a little understated comedic bite and I remember she was quite good.

I wonder if I'm the only one who remembers that show? It was on Comedy Central. Where mid-2000's shows thrived, but ultimately went to die. Some of those were damned funny, too!
Can you imagine that? Amy Schumer being softer spoken and not vile?
    😢
