So true! I think the problem is that the Internet is fueled by outrage. That's what gets clicks, views, whatever. And when you combine that with the fact that we're all in ideological bubbles, and it's not enough to be outraged at people outside your bubble all the time. That gets old. Like, I'm not listening to Rush Limbaugh, I don't care what he's saying, I assume it's something awful. So I probably won't bother to click on something complaining that he said something horrible. The people whose outrageous views might get clicks from me are those who I perceive as "neutral" or "on my side" to begin with: "Hey, Sam Harris is a racist? I didn't know that. Lemme click and see." The effect is that, once you commit to expressing controversial opinions in public, you better make damn sure that all your past and future opinions agree 100% with the party line on the same side. Otherwise you're unwittingly making primo content for the outrage-miners, and sooner or later there's going to be a mob with pitchforks coming for you.

That's what happened to Maddox when he started saying stuff that was heresy to his conservative viewers. And James Rolfe, as you pointed out, was "neutral," non-political, so when he (I think unwittingly) stepped into the political waters of the Ghostbusters remake, it gave liberals something to be outraged about.

this is true and part of the reason why I'm trying to cut down on my internet usage. thats a solution. you are what you eat and you are what you feed your brain, meanwhile too many parts of the internet are just too damn toxic these days

Not just the internet. Look at the elections. Trump drew first blood but now anti-Trump folks are coming out and beating the hell out of folks just for coming out of a Trump rally. And like always with bullies they are really brave, what with the fact that they have like 20 of there friends with them and don't confront one on one.

IMO, the reason the Ghostbusters trailer has received so many dislikes is a combination of factors:

    1. People love the original film(s).
    2. The trailer looks really bad.
    3. People wanted the original characters back.
    4. This particular all female cast feels gimmicky.
    5. Political correctness is a big, divisive issue.
    6. The internet hate train (see COD vs Battlefield).

If you were to take away any one of these factors, I think this controversy probably wouldn't have happened.

I'm personally glad that this has happened, as I hate unnecessary and lazy remakes/reboots of good films (I hope this trend continues), but
when I watch the various "anti-SJW" YouTubers (for lack of a better term) that deny that this has anything to do with the fact that the entire cast is female, it becomes clear to me that their biases have clouded their judgement, just like it has for their opponents.

Thankfully, The1Janitor and noelplum99 are still around to bring a balanced perspective to things. Thanks guys!

Saving this video for later use. Thanks.

I actually feel like in particular your use of the ghost busters trailer as an example of both sides being angry, crazy, and unreasonable to be spot on.

So you haven't heard about Sony purposefully deleting all of the Ghostbusters comments with quality and logical arguments? They're basically playing up the misogynistic comments so they can lure people to the film and have people defend it because "otherwise, misogyny". Alachia Queen did a really good video about it. She's really chill but she has background in the film industry.

I'm not perfect, but I typically just unsubscribe when someone I subscribe to does something I can't put up with, and then just…ya know, leave it be. Why do people have to hang onto such toxic emotions nowadays? Makes no sense. It's too stressful.

I've almost completely stopped interacting on Facebook and Twitter because I'm just exhausted and often dismayed at the content. I must admit that I also avoid most comments on YouTube videos as well. Sometimes the avoidance is conscious and almost feels like a fear of anxiety that could result from wading through all the negativity and hate. I feel like such a coward.

But anyway…suggestion for a video: how do you feel about/do you believe in the upcoming tech Singularity. What do you think about Transhumanism/Posthumanism?
