I absolutely love this movie. Ive been in many of the places Caleb has been (my name is even Caleb!). It takes a special soul to be positive and interact positively while youre down, and Caleb does that.

oh my god dude when kevin offered to come with caleb i was fucking SOBBING
i watched the heros journey caleb video probably when i was like 13, six years ago is a long time for me okay. and so i already have a fond association with him and childhood, his antics and very specific mannerisms are in itself both capturing the essence of a time period and a niche corner of the soul. so him and your videos are closer to me than i realized… so the fact he has a whole film about grappling with the past, moving on and growing up, that i am now seeing when i am in that exact same position in life, is HEART WRENCHING
thank you for this because i dont have many opportunities to process these kinds of emotions thank you thank you for this art THSANK YOU

This is a very touching film with some cringe movement and some good yet tragic laughs thrown in.
The film has a cross over style between a van (car) life YouTube diary with Caleb filming himself talking directly to the audience balanced with day in the life action.
Our hero is down on his luck and forced to live in his car in winter around Christmas. He films everything for a kind of real life doc for what we assume is his YouTube channel. But this isn't the hyped out romantic/freedom van life story we come to expect from van life influencers. Caleb does his car life in his home town living across the street from a McDonald's where he gets free WiFi. It's cold and he seems ill prepared for winter car life survival. Through the film we see how his friends and family support system rejects him or at best holds him at arms length because of his current situation. This feels real in how it's common that no one wants to be around people when they're down.
He seems obsessed with video taping everything. This at times keeps his spirits up by trying to film humor prank videos with his friend Kevin who seems to no longer want to play along. We get the feeling that none his other friends, family and girlfriend wants to play along either.
This may be a slice of the filmmaker Joel's real life as a prolific content creator who might have taken it too far at times or had once eager friends who joined in with his video at first but eventually moved on and tired of his obsession.
We don't know exactly how he got here, but we know he has little options. His struggles are real as his money and support dwindles.

Watched halfway through. brilliant film, but as I am immobilised with a back spasming from yesterday and no couch to lay on, living the fan life, I realised my life is Caleb's. While I don't have forst bite. I don't have a couch. We can all end up with caleb lives in a heartbeat. I'll finish watching when my back has healled, and this is less close to home. 😂

God damn dude. Great movie. Just finished this at 2am, didn’t expect to be so emotionally invested in this character when I first watched the fiverr video earlier. As someone who’s going through a particularly rough patch of life right now, this was exactly what I needed and was oddly a cathartic yet comforting watch. And also as someone who’s only been binging your catalogue for a week or so, I just wanna say how stellar your filmmaking skills are. Whenever you aim to achieve a specific feeling, you nail it every time. The worlds and characters you create in your more serious work always feel so real and raw, like I’m truly peeking into this person’s life. Excellent work to everyone involved, you should be proud!!

Ive been busy recently byt im getting around to making time for your recent films. This was a great one. It was in the same vein as We have to leave here together. If that was the title its been a couple years since I saw it. Two completely different film topics but for some reason they both capture something unique i cant describe.

I'm so close to running away from the home I share under my parents, for only a few seconds of this facade of independence I chase. I couldn't NOT see this character resemble the reality of this future I'm so tempted to fall in because of my impatience for change. As much I loved watching this reflection, I feel like I don't have enough to show my appreciation besides watching the full film. Thank you

This is an incredible and raw film that shows to me and to anyone that you dont need a billion dollar budget to make a great film. You need the humility and the honesty to use your own struggles to show people what it may be like. Thank you joel for giving the world such a relatable movie.. I too like to skip rocks Caleb 😢
