The bittersweet END of Megadeth

Metal Pilgrim | January 20, 2026

It’s official. Megadeth are calling it a day. Dave Mustaine just announced that the next Megadeth album set for release in early 2026 will be the band’s last one. And not only that… The band is heading out on a massive global farewell tour to say goodbye to their fans one last time.

So here’s what actually went down.

I was hoping for years that Dave and James could bury the hatchet and do some music together before it’s too late…would be the biggest thing in metal ever.

All good things come to an end, nobody expected it to last forever, and tbh as of their last Album they're riding high and if this one is anything like it then it'll be a perfect sendoff they'll be retiring at their best and before they start getting long in the tooth like GnR and other bands that are still kicking around but honestly shouldn't

The only thing I focused on was the news of a final studio album. The farewell tour part is probably full tours and not the occasional performance. The accounting costs of the band must be complicated too with all the previous musician involvement.

I got to see them on the infamous Aerosmith tour, they really were not happy on that tour and didn’t play very long, I also got to meet the band at a listening party for the world needs a hero album. They all signed my pass and I still have it.

Would be cool if Metallica attended their farewell tour. Maybe they could finally unite and make up. Be cool to see Dave play some of his songs with Met again.

Sure, black is often associated with grief and mourning. But there's loads of cultures where white is the colour of mourning. China, India, Japan, parts of Europe, …
No, this seems more like a definitive end.

Megadeth is not a They. Pronoun bullshit aside, its a He, as in Dave and whatever talented hired guns he's taken on or released over the years. Mustaine is a talented bugger though

Remained trash throughout their career. Love the early tunes most-peace sells, and so far, so good, so what. Real metal from the pit! Bring on the tour. Dont think they will play my fav Black Friday as a bit fast for the old boys.

The best. ❤ Dave is Thrash metal. I saw Megadeth in Seville this summer, the musicianship was second to none. The final kill will kick ass all over the planet.❤
