Anytime people can't explain a concept and default to giving examples (or metaphors) it's a bad sign. I watch out for this in myself like a hawk. It's insufferable to hear Gladwell almost never finish a thought or idea….And when he should go deeper and give an example he doesn't: what is the "standard story about your mom"??!! I don't know why I don't vibe with Gladwell at all!! I'd rather read him, and even then….it's a mixed bag.
I keep editing this comment because new things jump out at me as continue to watch: Neal tells an interesting story about filming/directing Charlie Murphy telling the story about Rick [James], and Malcolm couldn't possibly care less!! He's so uninterested, it's a bit painful to watch. And the truth is, I can understand that to a degree, but prior to Neal telling the anecdote Malcolm tried to pass it off as though he knew or was familiar enough with what Neal was talking about and who the people were….I don't think he has any idea who Charlie or Rick were…I dunno, maybe I'm wrong.
