I have the best anecdote for this. My grandmother was part of the last Swedish aristocracy, and some of her friends were comically unable to grasp the workings of the world. Two of them had just gotten their eyes opened issues regarding race, this was back in the 60s I believe. So in order to truly understand, they decided to be black for one day to see what it was like. "Oh no!" I hear you cry, but don't worry. They didn't do any black face or anything. They simply carried on with their day IDENTICAL to every single other day that they have lived. They didn't say anything different, do anything different, dress in any way different, they had simply decided that they were black.. and told no one.

The sheer racism they faced made them talk about it for years. Waitresses clearly discriminated and took much longer time than usual, service workers in general had a tone and gave them much worse service. Even the roads themselves blocked their way by creating traffic specifically for them, something that had never happened at 4 pm on a Friday before.

They understood the plight of those of differentially raced people far better after that one day. I naturally refused to believe that this was anything but a funny story my grandmother told me until I met them. It was like a Monty python sketch from the second they entered until they left.
