Because most of these people aren't interested in actually fixing their problems, they just want to block any progress towards other people fixing their problems so that the status quo will remain the same with themselves on top.

I've been waiting for a video like this. I hate seeing people turn death and other negative issues, into contests. "You put a flag of this country on your Facebook wall, but you didn't put a flag of all these other countries on your wall, even though they've 'had it worse'?! Shame on you! Obviously, you only care about people who are the same colour as you! What a racist!" Ugh, I'm sick of seeing this sort of thing plastered all over the internet. I understand that people are going through horrifying ordeals in other countries, and I do care about them, but it's impossible for me to always acknowledge every type of suffering (especially since I'm a pretty emotional person), and you are implying that my family and friends are selfish, ignorant, and cruel, even though you don't know a thing about them, and are basing your opinions on the fact that you don't agree with their actions. Grow up, stop trying to act like you have the best morals in the world, and that you're better than everyone else. Generally, ordinary people aren't sending prayers, changing their profile pictures to flags, and focusing on one group of people, because they have a secret political agenda and they only care about people who are similar to them. They're doing it because they want to spread love and support.

I wish we lived in a society where a celebrity could be trans and not be smothered with media attention.

And to be thoroughly honest, no, I don't think all courage is created equal. It DOES take more mental fortitude to run into a burning, structurally unstable house to save an infant child, or to spend sleep-deprived hours flying a helicopter into combat areas to pull out casualties despite the fact that you've been severely wounded.
…But that doesn't suddenly mean we should ignore someone's courage to be honest about who they are, despite the backlash from a petty, judgmental public. That still holds its own worth.

What we need to understand as a society though, is that the most influential heroes don't touch spotlight, and those who are most 'deserving' will rarely ever be recognized. Those who have made the biggest differences will often go unrewarded and unremembered by history. That's the nature of altruism- and I think that's ok. Its not about you, its about doing the right thing. By definition, sacrifice means there is no personal reward.

Let the media be sensationalist. Let the public be lethargic and complacent. It makes it all the better when someone decides not to be.

Thank you for making this video. I have been thinking this for so long and arguing with people about this same thing. There are so many different issues out there and it isn't that one is more important than the other or more worthy. You said it all perfectly in this video. And yes, I love the hair 😀

Once again, you have hit the nail on the head.  If I care about animal welfare, I don't care about people; If I donate to Oxfam, why don't I care about the hungry in my own country?  And hey, why do I bother to encourage recycling when people are getting killed in wars?!!!  (Oy)
Anyway, thanks for doing what you do : )

The best thing.. is what seems to be the simplest/no brainer.

You just straight up called Caitlyn Jenner "her" and didn't insist on using her former name. I fucking love you for that.

Some issues are discussed specifically with the purpose to distract from other issues that would probably be very concerning to most people if they were allowed to be dignified. I think "why are we talking about this" can be a valid question at times especially where larger media outlets are concerned.

There can be real illegitimacy in someone receiving an award. Sure, it's tricky to say something is more one thing than another, that's perspective. But, there are certainly cases where people received an award who exemplified the opposite of what the award was intended for, think Obama and the peace prize. Certainly too there can be cases too where the rift is extreme, and in these case sometimes too there are real benefits, a million dollars or something, isn't it unfair if these resource are to be allocated by someone who is truly undeserving? It is 'always' a competition, there is something real to be won, personally or for a cause, in the acclaim and attention that you would receive winning such a reward. I'm not saying Kanye has a point when he blubbers up on stage, or that the general foolishness surrounding incidents like this deserve attention, but sometimes these things matter, think about how the Oscars are less granted to actors of color, or even spots on the cover of newsweek and how this misrepresentation affects those involved and the causes they champion.

Thankyou! I agree with your POV, and Im glad that you spoke on this phenomenon (of people acting like some issues deserve more recognition than others). You're right: Its Not A Competition.

Ugh.  I apologise for not already being subscribed to you.  I found one of your videos sometime last year (the cultural misappropriation one) and thought you were awesome.  I did not sub at that time.  I should be ashamed of myself.

There is only one problem I can see with your point of view that will annoy and confuse most people, it is logical, well thought out, well presented and thought provoking.
Thank you for sharing as always I find it refreshing to listen to someone that still values common sense!

Everybody should subscribe to this channel. But it's not a competition either, I guess 🙂

Same stuff with top-10 lists. Why 10? Are you saying there were exactly 10 relevant items? Most time, either there were much more relevant points to add, or many of them were stupid. But it has to be 10 items, for some reason.

Or people listing the problems a particular population face. They put up a huge list with a few good points and a lot of trash… god why??? Nobody will take you seriously like that. List the real issues – it's not oppression olympics.
