On June 27th, Angine De Poitrine played the iconic “Montreal International Jazz Festival”, drawing in a “record turnout” with 70,000 fans attending. The huge audience has created a “viral scene” with many fans dressing in polka-dotted attire. Are they even better live? Does having their identity disguised make live performances easier… or harder?

Saw them the night before the Montreal Jazz Festival in Picton, Ontario, population 4,500. They’re mega-stars now but they still play small towns and small clubs.

Love their recorded music and video. Live I wonder? I loved Frank Zappa as he never played the same song live the same way. I imagine these guys would be very structured with little improvisation and spontaneity.

They were booked for 2 spots at a show. They threw on costumes after their first set and supposedly fooled everyone into thinking it was an entirely different duo. (Blame the DickeyDines Show if this is incorrect!)

As a proud Canadian, I love Angine and am so happy for the fame they are getting. I believe that some people are just attracted to this kind of music that revolves around patterns. I fell in love with the Adrien Belew version of King Crimson for this reason. Also, on a different note, I watched Master of the Universe and was very pleasantly surprised to hear The Darkness tune in the movie that reminded me of the Queen music in Flash Gordon years ago. Loved it.

Funny story: the first time I ever heard The Darkness, I was in a Hot Topic of all places, and I Believe In A Thing Called Love was playing on the overhead. I walked up to the cashier and asked who it was, and when they told me "The Darkness," I said "Thank you, I wouldn't want to accidentally buy one of their CDs." lol What an opinionated A-Hole I used to be. Needless to say, you grew on me, sir. Much love!

.The Montreal International Jazz Fest holds the Guinness World Record as the world's largest jazz festival. Every year it features roughly 3,000 artists from 30-odd countries, more than 650 concerts (including 450 free outdoor performances), and welcomes over 2 million visitors as well as 300 accredited journalists. The festival takes place at 20 different stages, which include free outdoor stages and indoor concert halls.
More than 200,000 people were at the Angine the Poitrine show , not 70 K ,

They arrived to it as a Joke. A local venue had a policy of not having bands play 2 weeks in a row… so they dressed in these crazy costumes to be anonymous so they could play 2 weeks in a row. The gimmick stuck. In real life they are Marc Antoine Mackin-Guay and Charles Thibeault. They actually have some real avant garde jazz cred.

Angine De Poitrine is definitely creating new neural pathways for me. The dissonances sound normal to me now. I also hear a similarity to the sitar music George Harrison explored in the 60s and, of course, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

70,000 must be the number of people able to see the stage, I was there, and it was easily 150,000 I was behind the stage watching from a screen on another stage and just as much people everywhere around me

I live very close to the venue but unfortunately I had a conflict… I wish I was there too. The Olympic Stadium in Montreal doesn’t even seat more than 60 or 65 thousand. And the weather that night it was pushing 30 Celsius… so the Angines were surely melting on that stage!! Unreal!!

Thought it would have fizzled by now, but it's been going strong since March. I have plans to see them three times this year and I simply cannot wait. Love every single thing about them. So grateful these aliens chose to come in peace to rock our bits off during this challenging timeline we are living in.
