The Hair Metal Guru | December 14, 2025

It was great to have Mariah back on to talk about the two new GNR songs, “Nothin'” and “Atlas.” What do YOU think of the two new tracks?

If they ever do get back together to write actual new material together I'd rather it sound more Chinese Democracy leaning than it to sound like the bland radio rock Slash and Duff were doing in Velvet Revolver. 🤮

I've been a fan since 1986! Unfortunately Axl wasted SO MUCH FUCKING TIME!!!! He could have released so much more music……..that being said. Chinese Democracy is an awesome album. Appetite of course is the shit! Illusions are solid; Spaghetti…ehhh. I swore I wouldn't see them live again because of the lack of new music but here I go again to see them next year

    *Mariah is great.
*Monsters is the greatest CD era song and State of Grace is probably the 3rd or 4th best (depending on where you put Hard Skool and Nothin'). Rumor is those two will be the next two released. Hopefully in 2026 and not 2027.
*People shouldn't expect mid-60 year old multi-millionairs Axl/Slash/Duff to write songs similar to ones they wrote 40 years ago when they were in their early 20s, broke, hooked on substances and grinding it out.
*if you love Hanoi Rocks, I hope you've checked out Michael Monroe's Stained Glass Heart – it's a brilliant song. And, Hardcore Superstar's cover of Don't You Ever leave Me is incredible.
*The constant f-bombs and swearing doesn't add any value to your shows.

The UUI comparison is a huge stretch. Better, Hard Skool, and the song Chinese Democracy are the only things they’ve put out since TSI that is worth a shit. Maybe Axl can put out a poetry book, cause lyrics don’t mean the song is good.

Just Chinese leftovers with Slash and Duff re-recording the guitar and bass parts. With Axls voice being that shape that its in, they would need a bucketload of tricks in the studio to make him sound halfway decent.

I find myself having a hard time listening to bands like Guns some thirty years after their prime, feels sometimes like an imitation and shitty one at that for their former selves but Nothin is actually
a quite good song and feels current and not like they’re trying to relive Appetite.

They sound like Chinese democracy rejects to my ears. Not a fan. It doesn’t hold a candle to previous works. Completely phoned in. I don’t understand why so many legacy bands are unable to capture the sounds of the past. Really makes me wonder if there was a lot more ghost writing back in the day than they lead you to believe. If a “nobody” act released these songs, no one would care. Enjoyable video. Keep it up. 🤙🤙🤙
