How The Super Bowl Explains Kendrick’s GNX
After watching the Super Bowl performance, I think I understand GNX better – GNX was the setup, and the Super Bowl is the punchline.

Great work! I also suggest you also check out Dissect Podcast's analysis of the half time show. It was phenomenal.

Call me old school, but frankly I don’t like either of them… sure I’m Canadian, but I’m from Montréal, Toronto has been our arch nemesis for generations so I don’t give a f… about Drake or Kendrick lol. Good video tho, I still watched till the end 👍

Hip hop never declined as a genre or as a culture. What declined was the rap game via the industry's misuse of hip-hop genre music. There's a big difference between the two. Folks need to recognize that 💯 The genre and the culture have been around since long before the industry got a hold of them and misused and corrupted the public image of them.

GNX has a very high concept, but it's only geared towards FBA culture (particularly generation X), the people who created hip hop & live it everyday. Pretty much all outsiders are going to miss it because it wasn't made for y'all… Same way with the Super bowl show. It's no insult to say that since it's beyond your cultural experience, it is beyond your comprehension. That's just the way it is with culture. You don't live it. You can't grasp it, you can't understand it…. And that's okay 💯

also all of the songs Kendrick performed at the superbowl he earns the rights too so that was a big bag right there, not only that it was one of the most streamed performances, and more than half of viewship dropped after his performance, i know i didn't watch the superbowl i never do, nor do i watch half time shows but i specifically bought youtube tv to stream and then instantly discontinued my membership lmfao

I'm pretty sure the concept of GNX is just Kendrick as he is today. It's a reflection of his soul, where he came from, where he is right now. That's why we have the inspired by others songs to show what made Kendrick… Kendrick. And why we have other songs like Luther which is more of how he is today, for ex. Luther is how he is now supported by his wife since obviously his biggest inspiration Pac is gone.
It's just a looser concept than say Damn or TPAB because it doesn't have recurring themes throughout (like another N* from Mortal Man) but for me, it's still a very strong theme and helps the listener to understand Kendrick as a person more deeply.

As a musician perhaps you can confirm or debunk this theory: the chords played by the marching band in TV off are the same as the fourth set of notes in the piano part of Meet the Grahams. I think there are 3 minor chord progressions and then one major chord. I don’t know if that’s significant or why it is but it does seem to link the two songs.

I have to say that it's no coincidence that we got this type of a Super Bowl performance on the heels of the 10-year anniversary of TPAB 🙌🏿🌍

Worst analysis of the superbowl show ever. It was not political, it was a personal beef with Drake and the future of hip hop. Stop over politicizing everything, woke whitey

People are overthinking it 😂 GNX is a concept album, but not a complex one like he usually does. The concept of GNX is Kendrick showing us what he can do if he has more freedom, if he didn't set too much rules for himself, and that's what all his previous albums were doing, he always had to follow the concept of the album, GNX is meant to show us the playful side of Kendrick where there are less rules. And 2nd, please hear me out 😂 2nd thing is the album is simply a concept in whole saying, " I'm The one " 😂 the way he sampled rap legends, and didn't disrespect them yet fully showing he is almost in the same league with them and even probably better

You skipped the part where j.cole dropped a song and called them the Big three that made Kendrick reply

GNX is a sample of Jay-Z's "Blueprint 2" which sampled Ennio Morricone "The Ectasy of Gold" from the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly soundtrack

I wonder if that means part 2 will be released post Toronto show which is June 12 & 13? Which is right around Juneteenth again

Just a cool side story, on Euphoria he said "headshot for the year" then released GNX on 11-22 which was essentially an entire album dedicated to the beef and bringing the culture together against the common enemy is also the day President John F. Kennedy was murdered with a headshot on 11-22-63. Kendrick has his mind so far ahead that he is lapping the timeline. I don't care what anyone says, Kendrick Lamar is the GOAT
