Anarchist here, the original idea was no government other than the people no corporations no billionaires. Rule of law is in the hands of the people without the role of a law.
Read a Crass book best explanation

Came across them as a 90s uni person – They wrote some VERY catchy tracks, ticky ticky time bomb, give the anarchist a cigarette, etc. Always VERY tongue in cheek, making you think!
English Rebel songs was very folk from '88 so going folky was always in their background!

Not sure if this is noteworthy or not, but they (technically) did one of the first hardcore punk songs combined with elements of ska music (Marching Round In Circles) in 1983/1984, years before the likes of Operation Ivy, Choking Victim, Suicide Machines and Mighty Bosstones did so, and slightly predating when Kortatu (coincidentally, another far-left punk group, this time from Basque) were experimenting with the idea.

They had one big international hit, but Chumbawamba was one interesting band throughout their varied career.

Reminded me of someone like The Mekons, who also evolved their sound while retaining what made them familiar and fascinating to fans in the first place.

Being into anarcho way back, I had their first 2 albums, and…. a few songs were incredible, but most I found absolutely unlistenable – just too out there in experimentation and not the aggro CRASS style I was infatuated with. But I very much appreciated their weirdness and anti-anti stance. Years later, I hear this track in a drug store and loved the infectious gang-vocals and wondered who tf it was. Laughed my ass off finding out it was Chimpish Banana (one of the members told an interviewer the band name was this, if it was shouted fast by someone Cockney – one of hundreds of false explanations of the name lol). Still love this song even tho I'm basically sick of it. They do have an amazing 10-track album of acapella worker's songs dating from the 1600s to early 20th century. Ridiculous talent in that group.

How come you missed the song they did with credit to the nation,Enough is Enough??? Also If you’re going to mention RATM you might want to mention that the guitarist joined Audioslave with Chris Cornell.

making a new term: "Billy-Bass'd" (Verb) when your utterance, whether a lyrical or non-musical verse, has entered the collective consciousness, and anyone hearing or reading said thing knows its origin, meaning, and usage. said utterance is then enshrined in a mechanical device (sometimes accompanied with dance) that spouts the phrase again and again, in supposed comedic effect.

all that said, Chumbawamba is amazing, and god bless 'em.

Punks know Chumbawumba, I love them. <3 Crass is one of my favorite bands.
Anarchist typically believe that the government should be abolished , typically.

I think the political interpretation of Tubthumping ages well for me. I think it's a deeply leftist experience. To me, it's about a kind of joyous defiance, having a drink and trying to find some optimism about our political future. That feels harder than ever, so I appreciate Tubthumping more and more nowadays. We get knocked down, but we get up again.
