God, you really stuck the landing on this one. That final cut shook me up the first time around, and that effect has only increased in potency on my second watch; all of Carla's sweat and tears ultimately amount to just another inch scrolled down the feed, a human existence commodified and broken down to content for the algorithm, worth a brief scintilla of dopamine to chase the last and meant to be forgotten as soon as it slides from view. How can real art and humanity exist and be in engaged with meaningfully in such a context? What a poignant note to end on.

I'm amazed at how long this kept my attention. It's funny how well the uninteresting music worked! It fit her character so well it ended up being sad instead of boring. Props for keeping these characters consistent over all this improvisation. I'm not sure what kind of video this is, but it was fun!

I love when art doesn’t romanticize the idea of becoming famous. Like, it’d be some scary shit. People you’ve known all your life will change their perspective of you and you have no control over it. People who barely know you will start acting like you’ve been close for years. People will try to talk you down from trying new things. The trust issues would be insane

that was amazing to watch and listen to. it seemed to go exactly where it needed to, yet surprised me along the way. I feel like the songs got more beautifully discordant as the story progressed. I really liked how point girl stayed true to herself while staying friends with good people. maybe that's the point

Pretty staggering stuff Joel! I fell into the, "just watch the start and then 48 minutes had gone by" trap like so many others. Some unorganized praise:

I feel like this should be required viewing for teens who want to be YouTubers.
Dax's delivery of the lines "let me just break this little cat fight up" cutting to Dev almost breaking, and "…because I get stressed out even thinking of those kinds of things" with the little quiver on "things" both made me have to pause the movie to laugh. Him as the entirely insecure, easily stressed out crisis manager is just gold. I’d like to think that most people in this were based on real person profiles but then you saw the potential for a joke with the crisis management character and just couldn’t resist.
Dev’s confidence as a performer, both as an actor and musician, is actually insane. It’s incredibly impressive to watch.
I'm grateful that the "Craigslist record producer low key hitting on the female artist" didn't go where I thought it would
Likewise with Spencer's character remaining as straight comedy rather than turning darker.
Felt, like so much of your stuff, truly original, both in form and function. Really, really, good concept, and excellent execution of concept too. It's pretty impressive (maybe terrifying) that you shot the film both in the short style, but also with normal cinematic techniques too.
Dev and Brittney's interactions were my favorite part of the piece.

Keep making stuff, Joel. I really, really like it.
