Moon was my first and only pokemon game I completed. Really enjoyed it. Just couldn't bring my self in to the rest of Media aside from having watched maybe 2 seasons growing up .
Watching the fall out while I was deployed in Japan and just having unlimited access. Genuinely made me feel like the struggle was fabricated.
    Sorta gross.
Was able to buy 700$ worth of card packs for my friend all sorts of different boxes ECT. (All 3 girls in my friend group) And watching them foam at the mouth over the cards was abit unhinged and has me worried that it's really just organized gambling.
But I mean to each there own I picked them up to make up for lost time since I got deployed for 10mo.

It's not much but I also have a series on my tiktok where I rip packs but I made it a mission to ONLY but at SRP. I'm new-ish to the hobby but I'm sure as heck won't support scalpers in any shape or capacity.

As a shop that is 99% singles and vintage pokemon, there are a lot of points that I think we're glazed over.
    1. The period 2021-2024 was a dead era for pokemon. Nobody cared, packs were $3, most collectors quoted "market" price because it was cheaper than retail.
    2. This current era of pokemon shortage/scalping is temporary, hype will fade, and arbitrage will move to another hobby. It's historically this way. Booms and Busts.
    3. The ragebait and doomer engagement content economy is; imo, contributing to the fomo (price increase) of sealed packs far more than scalpers. Hot take, but I, as a collector just buy the singles I like. If you want to gamble, just go to a casino. You will* spend more ripping packs than just buying the singles you want from a set.

TLDR: most* people complaining about pokemon are: seeking co-misery attention, short term clout, or won't be around when things get cheap again, because no one will care.

While it sucks that it's getting harder to open new Pokémon products, the tcg remains one of the cheapest card games to actually play. I think the deck that just won Worlds is like 40 bucks, and half of that is the ace spec :p

I work at an LGS and I'm dreading the next Pokémon drop. We have gotten multiple calls per day asking when we are getting it in, how much we are getting in. The last drop it barely touched the shelves with how fast people come in and grab it. I had someone get into an argument with me when we implemented anti-scalping measures. I love the community, I hate these scalpers

I decided a couple years ago that, as a 90s kid who kind of missed the Pokemon train, I'd start collecting now for fun. That didn't last long. I didn't know these subhuman walking turds existed, so I just gave what I had collected to someone. lol

in poland we have a guy who buys every pokemon produckt from every empik (cool shop) in country ( i herd from one of the workers) and sells it online and empik has a limit but he find a way to get more it is: he gives money to other people so he can get more

I wish Pokemon was still like how it was when I was a kid. I was just happily playing on my 3DS and collecting plushies without having to fistfight middle aged men for a pack of cards

This a slop video. You can't blame customers for a pricing scheme. The price is set by the publisher, Hasbro. The fact that you're attacking fans for the actions of publishers and massive corporate retailers makes you seem like a shill.

Massive institutional buyers are creating false scarcity. The dude buying 20 booster boxes at Target isn't driving the price up, Target itself buying 500,000 booster boxes is what's actually creating the price action. Hasbro can raise the price and they know the execs at Target will keep paying because they're not paying with their money, they're spending shareholder cash.

You did no research. You did a shallow meta-analysis where all you do is re-interpret the same data that's already popular. This is how you build an echo chamber, this is how you generate a marketing campaign, that is not how fans discuss a hobby they care about.

I finally saw some product in the store and bought a pack…. i was so excited. It is msrp 14.99 i got up to the register and it rang up for 29.99?? I didnt know stores could even sell things for higher than retail?
I love opening and selling the ones i dont want by severely undercutting everyone else (because lord the bulk 😂) and it helps bring the market down

I started collecting when I was young (around 2012) and lost my entire collection in a house fire. A part of me was missing since then.

I finally gained the courage to start collecting again and I really have not cared what anyone thinks. My current most expensive card is a Chinese venusaur EX that is $7. All of my cards are ones I think are cute or have cool graphics.

I recently went to a card show at a mall (that I did not know was happening when I agreed to go with a friend) and saw so many cheap cute cards. I actually got a few. This was also where I got said Venusaur. My first ever cards i have recollected were ones I got for free from a very kind dad and son duo. A tandemouse and a holo woobat from a cheap 2 for $1 box. I genuinely almost cried because I was so happy.

My life has been hell recently and that little light in the collecting community genuinely made my entire week.

This is what this entire thing should be about! It should be about having fun and putting smiles on peoples faces!!

I absolutely hate what this once beautiful hobby has turned into. Still remember the time where many people my age suddenly were too cool for Pokémon and now half of those douchebags are in it for profit from the TCG. It's just frustrating and sucks the fun and soul out of the franchise. Hatdly bought any cards this year, because I don't want to deal with scalpers etc.. Pretty much resorted to buying Japanese packs at lower prices and will wait this whole thing out.

Just let people buy product online on back order. Lego has been doing this for fucking ages and it means even if you have to wait, you will eventually get what you want without spending an arm and a leg.

They moved from pokemon to OPTCG and we hate them here too. Can’t get a hold of anything, even with the product limits. Currently got an extremely limited release that retailed at £120 is being sold for £600+ … it’s horrific.

As someone who plays the game, it’s also annoying for players. Scalpers buy up all of the product and it can make it really annoying to find certain singles for decks that people want to build.
