Why Pepsi Had its Own Military | Tales From the Bottle
An often requested topic, today we look into the timeline of Pepsi’s (yes, the cola company) naval fleet during the Cold War, which is popularly cited as having been the 6th largest military force in the world.
“In 1959, the USSR held an exhibition of Soviet technology and culture in New York. The United States reciprocated with an exhibition in Sokolniki Park, Moscow, which led to the famous kitchen debate. One of the American products exhibited was Pepsi Cola. After obtaining a photo of U.S. President Richard Nixon and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev sipping Pepsi, Pepsico executive Donald Kendall was able to capture the attention of the Soviet people and, in 1972, negotiate a cola monopoly in the USSR. Due to Soviet restrictions on transporting rubles abroad, PepsiCo struck a barter deal whereby Stolichnaya vodka would be exchanged for Pepsi syrup. This deal lasted until 1990, when the USSR and PepsiCo re-negotiated a $3 billion deal to exchange syrup for vodka and a small fleet of Soviet warships including 17 submarines, a frigate, a cruiser and a destroyer”

you could make a series of Tales From the Bottle episodes on Pepsi alone. The story behind the brand redesign is worth another tail, er tale..

Pepsi once denied a guy who earned a Harrier jet with his Pepsi points. They offered him a YAK-38 but he wasn't settling.

Coke and Pepsi are NOT the same. Pepsi is sweeter, and goes flat 100x faster than Coke. Coke is king for good reason.

Another reason to despise the taste of Pepsi. Another reason real southern Americans ask for a ‘coke’ at the drive tru even though we see you only have ick Pepsi products and just our 🤞🤞🤞

I dated a girl that claimed to HATE how coke tasted, and claimed to be able to immediately tell the difference. She’d get upset at restaurants that only had coke products. I secretly snuck her coca-cola and said it was Pepsi all the time and she never noticed and I had a great time. I always had a 2 liter of “Pepsi” filled with coke at my place. It cost a bit more to always buy both but it was worth it. She still doesn’t know and we broke up like 2 years ago. And yes I am very proud of myself.

In Thailand, Red and Blue are collusion(talking about color, not brand). Eric(Thai) from Blue always play golf at best short golf course in Bangkok and made under table deal with Red executives. They agreed to separate market to be leader. Red took traditional trade while Blue took modern trade. Then, they do not have to fight for market share and can fool their HQ people. This also against to the anti market collusion and anti trust laws. If corporate do not make any investigation on it, mean they also agree! There are witnesses and evidences there for any independent lawyers to bring this up!!
