I shared this video 11 years ago – it just popped up in my "memories" – its still fucking spot on.
And I would like to add: cops literally CAN'T help you. Even if a cop is backing you up, supporting your side of the story in court – that testimony would be shot down as "hearsay".
Reminder: anything you say can and will be used AGAINST you in a court of law. They need to add the word "only" in there so that it reads "anything you say can ONLY be used against you" – because thats the sad truth.

Look up the Sylvester Hayde case, as well as Lisa Edwards. After watching those two clips you’ll genuinely start to dislike cops, it certainly made me start to lose support for them

I love you so much and your amazing but don't bring race into it. Trust- I agree with you but you need to get the message out without sending the signal to the masses of sheep love. Go watch Long Island Audit. Absolutely woke me up. Crazy.

I am a white republican male, no criminal record but I greatly dislike police. They treat everyone like an adversary and weaponize their badges and abuse and take advantage of people

I've been on the wrong side of the law much. The police have been good to me ALOT. There's much wrong about this rant. I'll inform you one out of 25 people is a socio/psychopath……like me They have so much to deal with from us, not to mention all the other shit out there. Cops are not even mostly assholes. You're just deluded about what alot of us are like out there. I admit I have socio/psychopathy personality issues. There's many others out there like me and the police deal with us for you and they've been very fair, compassionate and contentious. And man oh man do some of us put them and others to the test.

My ex's best friend was a cop. He would always come over after a shift (like 4 nights a week) and get drunk and just freak out over what he had to do for his job. He didn't let himself go into a lot of detail, but he always talked about "corruption" and how he had to arrest a woman over stupid shit, and so on. It ate him alive. That's what happens when good men, with good character become cops. They become like the rest of the force, or they are eaten alive because their career. He wanted to be a hero, and being a cop was his dream as a kid. It's a nightmare for him.

There are almost 18,000 police agencies in the United States. While we shouldn't ignore important national trends, each agency potentially has its own rules, culture, and training. This seems like an issue where local action might be especially effective. Does anyone have tips on learning about one's local police agencies and holding them accountable? I figure Google is probably a good starting point.

My white skin has kept me out of trouble with the police more times than I can remember. I'm not proud of that but I am grateful. I cannot begin to conceive of what it is like to deal with the police in the USA without that advantage.

I wish my husband had seen this video. It might have helped us prevent being abused by police when we were exculpatory witnesses in a murder case.

Literally perhaps the best take on policing that I've heard. I'll just add that occasionally there are good cops that witness malfeasance by their coworkers and report it; they get fired. Thin blue line makes them all complicit. ACAB

What you said about police being "nice people" in their everyday life, but assholes when cops, reminds me WW2 era Germany. You see, most germans were not evil people at all. But they were led by evil, manipulative and ruthless ones, who encouraged certain behaviour. Its like that Stanford prison experiment. The moment you grant or remove someone's certain "powers" and make them member of a certain group, they start blending in. Because most just want to get along with their group members first, so they try to be just like everyone else. Even at the expense of "outsiders", when it comes to that.

To be really honest, I dislike the police.when I was 9 I was invited to a birthday party and there was a kid there who's dad was a police officer. Idk why but me and this kid ended up "fighting" (verbally) and he told me that his dad would shoot my family . I remember it was very scary as a child because of course I didn't know that wasn't possible.. But now as an adult thinking about it. I can't imagine how something like that could come out of the mouth of a 9 year old??? It is terrifying what this child might have heard or seen or how police officers act.

One thing I noticed recently is something I picked up from years of watching crime shows. I watched crime shows and detective programs frequently since I was a really little girl, and absorbing them made me internalize the idea that when a person clams up and says they want a lawyer, or when a person gets assertive about demanding a warrant for a search, that means they have something to hide. It wasn't until a while after I became an adult that I realized how often even innocent people desperately need a lawyer to protect them from police overreach. Now, if someone asked me for advice, I would never talk to police without a warrant or legal counsel.
