A cop can't make a business do that. No restaurant that is above a diner is going to post all of their policies. Might on their website, but not having all those signs making it look like an office rather than a restaurant.

Except no cop would do this, they'd just say it's their business and for you to pay up.

I don't understand why so many people are agreeing with asshole customer when they are clearly in the wrong.

I was never a full blown accountant but assisted in the finance department breaking up meal expenses like this for the govt. I don't understand why they wouldn't just put it on one card and leave the rest to whoever runs finances in their company? Genuinely interested would love if someone could speak to why this would be an issue

Maybe I'm dumb but can't you add a fee for doing it and then just do it for them?

Also for a party of 18 I'm kind of wondering about how they need to split from the very beginning…

I agree the policy should be written down. But the whole we get hit with fees excuse is dumb. They would eat the fees if that group of 18 was 9 separate tables of two, it’s just extorting a large group of people because they all went out together. Would certainly not tip in a scenario like this and it would be the managers fault.

Customer was in the right on this, unless business had the explicit policy posted the customer can pay in all pennies if they wanted to.

If you can run two cards for a two-top, or one guest can dine alone, you can run each person's bill separately for a large party. I've never understood this nonsense. The credit card fees are already accounted for in the price of each meal. This is just a manager wanting to be extra cheap at the expense of the customer.

Honestly, 8 checks for 18 people isn’t that bad. It’s one off from 9, which is what the restaurant would receive if they came as couples.

The one using metaphors, analogies and entertaining visuals to describe a situation that they were wrong in so they can get support over just telling the actual truth about it ALL

Only allowing 3 cards for EIGHTEEN PEOPLE is crazy. There should be an exception for large parties like that, especially when they’re having a business dinner and paying with business accounts. Terry is the ahole here for sure. Gotta write that down so they know beforehand.

i think terry should've just given in an split the bill. they were willing to pay and they didn't know about the policy, meaning they probably wouldn't have even eaten there in the first place

I'm sorry, but those are business credit cards. Not breaking up the bill properly would be tax fraud and would get every single one of the cardholders in deep trouble.
I understand that the fees eat into the profit margins, but I'm sure as hell not risking a tax audit for a dinner.

I think Terry is the A- hole here, sorry to say. They brought in a lot of business and were never given a head's up thar they couldn't pay the way they needed to.

Tbf Aaron did right thing asking manager and appoligising…its not his fault. The manager should have made exception once the customer said they were not informed prior and had no other way of paying. It sucks but if not written down or communicated then kind of on them. The customer was not rude either so he wasnt ah here. I waiteessed many poor tables but this wasnt one…used to hate splitting bills for service staff when was running host stand (we had the same expectation a manager would have when no manager) but we would always do even if it did suck.

Oh, there is no asshole here. Just somebody not very bright.
Write down your goddamn policies, cover your ass, avoid problems.
The last is the most important one. Your time is money and problems take time: STOP WASTING IT.

Regardless of policy. If they dont say up front which people are separate, then no way break up the bill
If you have the orders put in separate groups, then there is no problem
