Whitey Bulger, The Mobster Who Eluded The FBI For 16 Years

Weird History | October 14, 2025

Whitey Bulger’s life played out like a Martin Scorsese film, and certainly, the legendary mobster and his exploits have been well documented in movies and television alike. The eccentric gangster grew up on the streets of Boston in the early 1940s and was only a teenager when he turned to a life of crime. Throughout his life, Bulger robbed banks, committed murder, dealt in the international arms trade, and even worked as an FBI informant. His long and storied life came to an end on October 30, 2018 when he was allegedly killed in prison by other inmates.

From what I understand, Jimmy Bulger did not see "Black Mass" and absolutely refused to because he called it "a work of fiction". Johnny wanted to meet him one-on-one before he began filming so he could get a better feel for the character, but Bulger denied the interview. Johnny has always wanted to meet the historical people he's portrayed so he could get a better feel for that person, and the first one that comes to my mind is George Jung (for the movie "Blow"). I wish Johnny and Jimmy had met because that would have been a pretty interesting interview, but I guess it's not really surprising that it didn't happen.

I worked in the Federal Building in my county & walked by the 10 Most Wanted posters every day on my way to my office. I always noticed Whiteys poster because he didn’t look very terrifying. One thing I did notice was that his poster remained up after he was captured, Johnny Depp made the movie & he was killed in prison. I think someone dropped the ball at the FBI.😂

The title makes no sense because how does an informant elude the FBI, He also had $800,000 inside the walls of the Santa Monica apartment. It's no wonder why so many people turn informants look at how well the FBI paying.. Geez.

When you look at the evidence that was found in WB's apartment in California – you know John Connolly helped Bulger getting set up in California. $800K – and 250 lbs of guns and ammo – Connolly handled the logistics.
