What we captured on a remote portage in winter…

Voyageurs Wolf Project | February 11, 2026

From this past winter on a remote portage…

This portage has traditionally been the border between two packs. In the past, we often observed members from both packs frequenting the portage marking their territory, and investigating the scent-marks from their neighbor.

But this past winter, the only wolves seen on the portage were Whiskey Point Pack wolves. Their neighbor, the Wiyapka Lake Pack, remained generally in the southern part of their territory in an area where there was substantial logging, likely because this is where deer were concentrated.

Nonetheless, the portage was used by a variety of the usual forest-dwelling creatures. Once the spring thaw happened, the trail became an otter highway…

Are shack had a young black radio collared wolf on camera on the town line forest road north of Orr on the 10th of sept of this year. We saw a article on instagram about a wolf that looks just like him. Two collars one green and the other is light colored. Our property is about 8 miles down the townline and two miles from the Vince Shutte bear place.

    Who's ! The Proud Otter !!
It was like old Home Week.
I pretty sure it was a Fox because of the tail and muzzle , Redish and Black.? In looking it up I found, Cross Fox. Is this right.? What stunning animal.
Thank you so much for my morning smile. Take care.

The diversity of animals you manage to capture footage of with your trail cams is always impressive! Was wondering? That wolf at 39 second mark, injured or had he just eaten well?
