The 2018 midterms were historic for women candidates. A total of 273 candidates were on the ballot, representing both parties. But even with this influx of women, they’re still way underrepresented in the US government. And that underrepresentation has very real policy consequences.

To learn more about how women approach policy differently check out these studies that were cited in the video:

Note: Ayanna Pressley from Massachusetts and Jahana Hayes from Connecticut are the first black women elected to congress from New England. We mistakenly left out Hayes. We regret the oversight.

you bring up race [all kinds] and being lgbt… what about disabled and chronically ill women [or men for that matter]…. name one disabled politician right now. disabled people can also face barriers like inaccessibility, ableism, and having benefits denied if they are in a public office

does vox realize that bringing home pork money is something congress members are NOT supposed to be doing??? earmarks and pork money is a prime sign of congressional corruption and funneling in funds away from other programs for niche programs in your community in order to essentially bribe your way to reelection. so bragging that women bring home more pork money is NOT a good thing

When 👧 get elected, they end up doing a 👎 job. What occurs next is that there are lots of dissatisfied constituents. This is a 🌎 phenomenon. Your video only needed to be 10 seconds long 🙄.

Men are more likely to spend more time advancing their career, more likely to spend larger portions of their life working toward a position, and more competitive. The fact that most legislatures are full of men have to do with biological differences not sexism.
