Morgan, I could just see you in a corporate board room presenting a new marketing idea with powerpoint and other visual aids, but I much prefer your new reality of standing in a barn with printed photos of items you are ranking … for farming. You have come so far, and watching your journey makes my heart sing.

I use a weather app for golf and a golf smart watch. They works surprisingly very well for weather. Driving throughout NY, PA, DE, DC, MD and VA daily the golf apps often notify me with the weather way before I see rain state to state.

I once read an article asking people what's the most useful item on a farm. Buckets won hands down. One person stated that you can use three buckets during milking–sit on one, use one to give feed to your cow while milking her, and milk her into another bucket.

My dad used a wheelbarrow to mix cement when we lived in a house where we put in a patio, a sundeck, and a hobby room . No problem. Plus it's easier to dump with a wheelbarrow than a cart.

Been watching a quite a few year and really liked this style a vid idea for something similar could be a buglet thing like 2k 5k 10k et cetera like what tools and animals you'd buy with this budget for a start up farm/small holding

You absolutely need baling twine if you are haying. That is used by the baler to hold the bales together. Otherwise one spool will last years.

I agree with your call on gloves, but with this adjustment: if you've got hands that don't fit tge usual glove sizes and builds, get what you find works for you, and buy as many as you can!
I've got big, square palms and short fingers. ACE Hardware had a store brand of goatskin riggers-style gloves that were perfect, and I used my last pair a couple of years ago.
These days I use an Australian company called Fist Gear, and while they're affordable, I'd pay premium for them because they fit.

The Vimes boot theory strikes again. Also, there are wheelbarrows that have a pair of wheels at the center so that you aren't holding the whole weight up so it is much more controlled and useful.

Also hiring someone can help them out too to cover the cost of the stuff, in Australia alot of farmers had expensive gear they couldn't afford to insure and lost it all in a fire or flood and then realized everyone only used it once or twice a year and they all had one on debt. Also gives you both some social time and even if you only talk for a couple of minutes you can learn something.

Re: tractors and other expensive equipment. The metric I use is if the cost to rent for the length of time I need it is more than the cost of the machine, then I buy the machine. Ex: I'm building a house. I have several trenches I need to dig, gravel I need to move around, and, eventually, I plan to do a lot of gardening in raised beds that will need filling and have compost piles that need turning. To dig the trenches for the house, I'd need a rental for several weeks (possibly months) at about $1500/wk. To buy a cheap little mini-ex was only $5k – or about 3 weeks rental. It was far cheaper to buy the machine and now I have it for the future also.

You must have a chainsaw sharpener
I use a Dremel
Cordless to touch up the chains as I work
A corded one to sharpen chains at the house
