Were Guns N’ Roses Really That Amazing?!

Justin Hawkins Rides Again | February 4, 2026

I have yet to do a proper video about Guns N’ Roses so today I’m going to look at one of my favourite songs “Paradise City”! The talent in this band is undeniable. Let’s have a listen and figure out what’s so good about this band and particularly this song. Are you a fan?

'Were Guns N' Roses Really That Amazing?!'- what a title. Just came here to insult your very core, and found out you adore them, too. Gun N' Roses is my teen years, my twens, my thirties, my forties, now my fifties…I am absolutely sure I will listen to them, if I would grow old like 80 or 90 (which I probably won't). I just read a thread on reddit 'Guns N' Roses were overrated'- stuff like that. Whoa. Of all concerts I have been in my life, I remember the Use Your Illusion Tour like it was yesterday.
edit: Nowadays, people call them mysogynistic and stuff. Let me respond:
We are Gen X, dear Marshmellows. We knew how to respond to chauvinistic men. And they fell in love with us despite our typical neurosises. And anyway, what does that have anything to do with their music? Leave our idols alone, go pet your generic 'music' makers.

I used to be in a band out of Austin Texas called raging saint reference YouTube videos in the late eighties on their first tour guns and roses played the back room in Austin Texas, I loved their music I was hearing on the radio but to see them live was like so many other bands really loud and sloppy I don't remember if we opened for them or not we generally did for a lot of the touring bands coming through Austin we were a well-rehearsed band but learn to real lesson when we opened for King's x for the first time wow what a learning experience those guys are awesome

Appetite was a moment in time, where the energy of what they had lived through to get there just came together to create a milestone in music.
Downhill from then on I’m afraid.
More recently, sorry but I can’t stand Slash’s incessant soloing ego trip and they need to take it all down a tone or two to help Axl’s voice.

Though I do have to give it to them for best debut Album I think. Really solid.
The only problem? They should have held back a few songs for the second album, because I don't
G & R were able to follow up with another album of that caliber.
~When you have a perfect album, what can you do for the encore? That's the only problem, but a good problem to have.

Nope. Nope they weren't. They were dickheads that just timed their first album right and Tipper Gore added perfectly to their fame with the PMRC advisory sticker. Ask anyone at the time who toured with em lol.
Slash appears to have matured somewhat and no denying is a talented musician but Axl dragged em down in my opiníon 😁 and it is only my opinion, horses for courses people, if ya like what ya like fair play to you.

Critics and journalists can write whatever they want. It's the people, the fans that count. Paradise City is to this day one of my favourite songs, and one of those few songs that I can listen to on loop. Appetite for destruction is one of the best albums ever released.
