gambits death was heartbreaking and was a huge talking point for weeks… compaired to the red wedding in WTF moments it was that powerful… suprised the dark phoneix death and rebirth of jean wasnt in this list as to this day that one scene where they all give a little to save her still brings tears to my eyes and got some of my residents to watch the full series of the 90s xmen plus the new one on disney plus… cant wait for season 2 of it to see how things turn since… well that might be spoilers so i dont want to say anything

Dude that episode of X-men 97 had me on the edge of my seat and crying. That is one of the best episodes ever. I teared up when Storm lost her powers but damn the Death of Gambit, Leech, the other mutants had me balling.

Gambit death, BROKE ME, I'm still not right. His delivery of that line was perfect and Rogue saying I can't feel you, so powerful and so touching just broke me.

One that really needs to be added to the list: the “death” of Morph.

It isn’t all that shocking when viewing the series as a whole, especially since Morph was essentially a brand-new character created for the show. But Saturday morning cartoons had not really featured the deaths of major characters up to that point, and the X-Men did it in its pilot episode.

This was the moment that Saturday morning changed forever. And while the series would reveal that he was revived by Mr. Sinister in the next season, his absence looked like a shadow over the first one.

#8 would have been more shocking had it actually been the moment the information was revealed. The audience already knew, as Jean had revealed it during the Phoenix Saga. The episode in question was the payoff for that moment.
