The Other Humans (That We Know Of) | Lindsay Nikole

Multiple human species walked the Earth together for hundreds of thousands of years. Watch Homo sapiens share the planet with Neanderthals who had bigger brains and made cave art 64,000 years ago, Denisovans discovered from a single finger bone in 2008, Homo floresiensis standing just 3.5 feet tall on an Indonesian island, and Homo naledi buried in caves so tight only “underground astronauts” could reach them. Plus, meet Denny a first-generation Neanderthal-Denisovan hybrid found in the fossil record. Ancient human history is wilder than you think.

A huge thanks to the team for helping bring this video to life!

The idea of organizing people into different species is kinda weird. Like "oh ur traits are different so we are completely different species." That is what races are today. We have different traits. Still.

3:15 so surprising to me that, as far as we know, while Hominins started in Africa and spread out into different lineages.
The one that eventually surpassed all the others, was the one that remained in Africa.
Like we spread out from there twice

My only comment: "bang" ! 😜
Edit: Nicole what's your thought about the new hypothesis:
(According to newest genetic analysis) The "old" 'Out of Africa' might not be correct after all?
The new hypothesis states that Homo Erectus left Africa – and then from East to West – Homo Sapiens came back?

"The only Hominins still alive" That we know of.

I still hold out an unrealistic hope that there is a species of ape-person hiding out there somewhere. I will also try and convince you that Moth Man is real, so do with that info what you will.

I went down the rabbit hole of looking this up a couple of years ago, so it's really cool to see a video about it. Naturally, you've got more info here than I found on my own.

The thing that started me looking at human evolution was the Uncanny Valley. Being so universal among people, it must exist from some evolutionary need, so that raises the question: why would humans have had an evolutionary need to recognize something that is almost, but not quite, human, and then either fight or flee right away?

I'm following this series. I forgot to comment, I met one of the underground astronauts in comunity college. It was for antrhopology day its anual there. She mostly talked about her adventure in the cave. She said "I'm right by you sweeti." I'm blind. That was three years ago.

I think Neanderthals were likely generally superior to us peak wise, intelligence wise perhaps as well, but their caloric metabolic rate was about twice ours and they were more specialized carnivores. That’s most likely why they died out, as all the big game went out, so did they. Diet is what we had over them, perhaps superior ability to speak and thus communication as well.
