Lindsay Nikole talks the chilling “Jigsaw Murders” of 1935, when two dismembered bodies discovered in Scotland led to one of the earliest breakthroughs in forensic history. True crime meets biology as blowflies, flesh flies, and dermestid beetles take the stand as expert witnesses.

i used to want to be buried when i die but then i took an entomology class and there was a forensic entomology unit where we had to learn which insects colonize the body at each stage of decomposition…yeah i’m getting cremated now

I recently went to an entomology exhibit at the natural science museum in Houston! They have a brief focus on forensic science and how insects help detectives and coroners find clues as to how people died. I love your videos and I’m so happy you’re talking about bugs on your channel!

Paul Brodie on his "Well, I Never" YouTube channel released a video on these very murders only ten days ago!
Thank you for another fascinating video Lindsay. I see your Hallucigenia tshirt and can't wait for mine to arrive 😍

Ok so wait, they gotta bleep out "Murders" in the title and blur out human bones, but a fly laying piles of eggs in an open human wound is all good? Youtube censorship is WILD.

Thanks for the disclaimer up front. This one's not for me. As it happens, my sister-in-law is a forensic osteologist and actually studied at the Body Farm. She used to liven up Thanksgiving dinners with school stories, so…yeah, I'm all good here.

    Peace!

I've left my body to forensic science. I've had too much surgery to be useful to students of anatomy so I discussed with my doctor what else my cadaver might be good for once I've finished with it, and this is what we settled on. It's very expensive to dispose of human remains, and this is a way I can save my daughter a lot of money and also be of some service to my fellow humans (for a change, some might say :D).
