The History of Pepper’s Ghosts

Weird History | November 22, 2025

Anyone who considers themselves a Disney Parks fan is familiar with the spectral entities that lurk in the Haunted Mansion. These semi-transparent ghouls dance, dine, and even play organ in the classic Disneyland ride. Invented before modern holograms and other high-tech optical tricks, the Imagineers had to use a technique called Pepper’s Ghost to create the realistic-looking, phantasmal beings.

The Pepper’s Ghost illusion has been around since the dawn of Victorian-era spiritualism, which featured a love – or perhaps obsession – for all things spooky and supernatural.

Never knew about “pepper’s ghost” until researching ancient horse-racing reports. There was a horse named Pepper’s Ghost running in the 1860s! That got me curious and I found out about this phenomenon! Amazing that people knew about that show by Pepper enough to already name a horse after it!

As someone that learned about alien abductions and the paranormal, Pepper's ghost may explain our very own reality and the idea of higher dimensions. Only it works on basis of frequencies, wave particles and resonance combined with perception

Due to the fact I don't have any sound on my computer right now, I am going to have to move the film Wall Street to next month.

I was going to watch it tonight and am not able to watch it tomorrow…I am moving it to my June Watchlist.

7:27, At least at Disneyland, that sheet isn't plexi. It's legit glass. There's been a lot of speculation about what they would actually do in the event that it broke, considering that the entire structure was basically built AROUND the glass, with no easy way to replace it.

Crazy. I wrote a research paper back in 1992, (absolutely despise research papers, lol) about the future of technology in regards to virtual reality and holograms. Even included that one day, holograms would be opaque. The dead would appear to be “alive” again. That headsets would advance to where they’d be affordable for the masses. Wild how fast tech is advancing
