Strangely enough I'm a mostly white woman who almost never watches sports and your wrestling essay was the first thing I ever saw from you (and it was amazing)! And I saw the running back video soon after that, another fantastic piece of work. Sometimes the algorithm gets it right I guess? I doubt I would have felt interest in watching hours of videos on those topics if someone had asked me to, lol.

Television isn't intended to genuinely enlighten people. This isn't surprising at all.

Ballers tone was less dark but it did use actual NFL teams and players were involved with the show. It also went into quite a few subjects that didn’t make the NFL look necessarily good and that you know were based on a conglomerate of players.

This show was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was so happy to randomly find this some 10-15 years ago and was immediately disappointed it only lasted one season.. But unfortunately classic NFL to bury that ASAP.
Sidenote: the LB name of the show may be supposed to have Polish roots, but the spelling would be all wrong (it's "Olcyzk" when it should be "Olczyk"), so only natural that with the spelling of the show that name is difficult to pronounce…

I’ve never heard of this show before when I went to my local op shop here in Australia. I found it by the show was never meant to be released here and I paid three bucks for it and it’s my greatest pick up I’ve ever found. I watched it when I got home and oh my god it actually showed the dark side of the NFL. It’s brutal but it’s an honest look at a dangerous sport in all the NFL players go through.

Hey man, I hate to break it to you but, sports drama is the only thing utilized in the media. 99 percent of viewers don't know anything about sports they just know the drama around it or they know a team is successful because of a celebrity status superstar player. No one knows the real reasons why teams win or lose or what's really going on, they just know the media generated hype and gossip. All sports these days is, is drama.
But a well made TV series about a sports team or league would be worth watching, I agree with that

Funny thing is name on the jersey has a typo and should by "Olczyk" not "Olcyzk" and "cz" in Polish is being red as "ch" in English. Shout out from Poland man!

B, I watch sports please make more content lol! Just like the rest of life race, politics, and classism is evident and certainly in sports. Please take this idea.. AAU killed basketball and the NBA is now basically pay to play, making football the last rags to riches sports

Speaking of "alternate universes"…maybe I misheard you, but did you just say that ESPN in 2004 wasn't a juggernaut? I realize you said "Not like they are today", but I'd argue they were a BIGGER deal 20 years ago

Hah I mean I don't care about sports in general, for the same reason I don't watch streamers, but I like the political and socioeconomic angles you bring to it. Like I remember that running back video you did, I thought it was interesting. Also, gave me some talking points to throw around when there were sports discussions happening around me with other friends 😛

ESPN was huge by 2003. ESPN has been in existence since 1979 and by the 90’s with shows like Sportcenter they ran shit. They were bigger than they are now because of how technology has evolved.
