A Historic Election?

This happened despite the best efforts of the Democratic establishment to tamp down the growing progressive wing of the party. Now it’s time to hold them all accountable.

They just passed a bill in Washington State (where I live) to require female atheles to go through a sex exam to compete in sports. All to keep an estimated 5-10 trans girls from playing sports with their friends. As a trans person, I, personally, am not that hopeful.

Also it looks like my Trump boot licking republican representative is getting re-elected. So there's that.

The people of the United States need to ensure there is accountability for the Democrats this time around.

No more excuses, no more delays, acknowledge why they were put in Washington and what the people need.

And most importantly, the people need a method of accountability. Whether it's withholding taxes, protests, or at the extreme end, a prolonged, nationwide, multi-million strong general strike.

As a Democrat it has been incredibly disheartening to see republican-style denial of objective reality taking over some of the party. A wing of the party I have generally held to be intelligent and highly educated.

Nearly every DSA-linked candidate dramatically underperformed both the national average and other races on the same ballot. El-Sayed’s victory was not “resounding;” only winning by 7 in Michigan in a D+13 national environment is embarrassing. That would imply he loses in any year less than D+6 nationally (which is most years). And the defense of “he was smeared by the media” is incredibly weak because Talarico got it way worse and still overperformed.

I really do get the frustration at an aging and sometimes ineffective party establishment, and I believe we took a big step forward by electing younger and bolder candidates. I would love to see new leadership other than Schumer if someone bold and young steps forward. If not this year, then certainly in 2028.

But at the same time, it’s incredibly obvious who the overperformers were. People like Ossoff, Cooper, Talarico, Hinojosa, Sand and Colom. Not necessarily all moderate, but all kind and well-spoken populists. And the party will only continue to succeed in normal years (where an 80 year old president isn’t shooting himself in the foot repeatedly) by continuing to thrive in that space.

I despise hearing Schumer and Jeffries congratulating themselves and patting themselves on the back, despite the fact that they did absolutely NOTHING to help. We could have won more races if they had actually done their part. Angie Nixon would be in the senate too, if they hadn't shunned her. I'm so angry at those traitors. They might as well do what Haley Stevens did. They don't get to take credit for ANY of this. They need to go.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE replace Schumer & Jeffries. They have the enthusiasm & charisma of a land turttle!!!

They'll Garland the investigations & oversight the Dems will need to do expeditiously!!

I remember you asking about how to make your podcast better. I would like to hear about all the sneaky laws the billionaire class passed to take advantage of us, and how to reverse them.

    1. Chuck the Chuck. 2. We need a reset plan, like they had a 2025 plan, we need the 2029 plan. I worry that with greedy corporations the prices will not be lowered and the Republicans will get back in. I am especially worried because the healthcare costs are scheduled to go up in January, and of course Dems will be blamed. I think the biggest and best splash we can make is to combine the VA and Medicare to give us all free healthcare right out of the gate. Talk tRump into it by letting him take credit.

As much as I'd like to see people be held accountable, that cannot be the priority for the next 2 years. After the White House is painted blue, THEN we can enforce the rule of law!! They have to avoid symbolic actions and show that the Democrats can execute on actions that the broadest citizenship can recognize as positive actions: restore "affordability" or at least show obvious signs that prices are moving in that direction. (1) That means ending the (ego-)war with Iran [period]. There is a long list of additional things that need to be done, but if that is all that is done, they will seal the deal for a blue White House.

They need to target bipartisan policies: institute rational frameworks and guardrails around AI and the infrastructure to support it; restore respect to/with our allies; erect non-partisan guardrails to rebalance the checks and balances of the US government.

The goals have to be kept to actions that directly affect people. Keep the list short and obvious so that the populace can easily identify the changes and progress when it comes time to vote in 2028!

I did read that Minnesota had the highest voter turnout rate in the nation. People are pissed!

I also noticed that my state, Alabama, voted for a transgender candidate, Allison Montgomery, on protecting public education, improving Huntsville healthcare, and ending local data center projects. And the slogan: "I'm even going to work hard for those who hate me."

This is Ala fuckin' Bama electing a nonbinary representative, so maybe even Mississippi will turn blue. On the other hand, we did elect Tommy Tuberville, the dumbest dumd dumdass in the country, as governor..

Hopefully Allison can do some good. And those democrats elected can affect some change, some kind of normalcy.

We need a Nuremberg-style event to make clear that actions have consequences. The problem is that there is a massive disinformation machine that only fails upward when it generates (to use Mitch McConnell's own term for it), "looney lies". There are some people who can be told anything and believe it without bothering to consider that it might be a lie.

THANK YOU!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I'm celebrating as much as the next rational American but this CANNOT be a "Let's all go back to brunch!!!" moment! Voting was the START of the battle not us crossing the finish line & I'm seeing far too many people who fail to realize that

I lost my job Tuesday morning. The emotional and physical toll I felt was pretty intense and I debated even going to the polls – I moved back to my home state in May and wasn't registered to vote, doing so felt like "another task" that weighed heavy on my mind – and I needed rest.

I went anyway. Registered right at the polls, and voted straight Blue purely out of spite. It was the only middle finger I could give my former employer. And it felt amazing. One of the races was a close call and flipped a seat.

I'll be fine, I'll find a new job and move on. Right now the Dems need to move on from Trump and focus on building their policies, connecting with people, and working towards the 2028 election. I'm tired of them dangling people like Clinton and Schumer in front of potential Blue voters and expecting them to just go along with it.
