How did you feel about this scene?

It wasn't just an arrow wound. The arrow was smothered in animal feces, infecting her with Ecoli. The Ecoli is what killed her. They even said in the show the wound would be a but it was a dirty arrow and explained dirty meant covered in feces.

I just discovered this series a few days ago. Elsa, what a badass. Takes a poisoned arrow to the gut and still keeps fighting.
Exciting stuff.

It was heartbreaking to watch, I mean couldn't they have adjusted the ending domehow? Elsa was a very important protagonists.

The series took the viewer to the trail with them and having Elsa die brought the tragedy home, because you cared for the character.

That was NOT a treatable wound. Given the sepsis from the manure and the liver shot, it was a horrible way to go, but no one could do anything.

i think it was infection, not "something as easily treatable as an arrow wound." Antibiotics weren't invented yet

First of all, ITâS A SHOWâŚ.let it go.. second of all she was shot in the abdomen with an arrow. And if you were to have paid attention, you wouldâve heard that it struck her liver and that the Indians had a habit of dipping them in manure prior to shooting them. This in itself as they stated in the show creates a lot of infection. I am One as well that did not want to see her die. I thought she was a very important part of the show however it is a show and it does help. Explain how they ended up in Montana. I think thereâs too many people that get wrapped up in these movies and shows that think itâs reality of some sort and they end up losing track of reality itâs made for entertainment and thatâs how we should see it

The whole series is amazing.. itâs clearly about lifeâs most extraordinary ups and downs.. Elsaâs character was great in her life and death .. people need to embrace the good and bad in life .. mortality is very real and sometimes not as long as we would like . This prequel was amazing

Not sure why anyone thinks this went to far. I think it shows the reality of what it was really like about 150 years ago

There is something wrong in the head with people that get bent out of shape about stuff that happens in TV shows.

There was foreshadowing in the first episode. You see her get shot by an arrow. I guess that doesnât mean she HAS to die, but everyone was fairly warned from the beginning that it was a definite possibility that she would.

I've got news for you. No penetrating wound with nastiness like an arrow, to the liver is treatable, not even today. You're a gonner, in minutes, due to blood loss, with infection a guaranteed backup.

I thought Elsa Dutton's death scene was absolutely phenomenal. So simple and calm, and yet so overwhelmingly powerful. I'm not a huge fan of most American TV series, but '1883'… yes, I loved every minute of it. '1883' had a lot of character, with the actors being able to play their roles with intensity and truthfulness. I also absolutely adored how the special love between beautiful Elsa and Sam, that handsome Native American young man, was staged and how it was woven into Elsa's death!
