As a Cuban: we don’t complaint because he did a good job, its Al-fackin-Pacino. We were honored 😂 Also, Manny was played by a Cuban guy, and he reports Pacino was very respectful and asked him for a ton of advice out of concern for being accurate. So his first-person report-back has kept Pacino from getting cancelled😅

In the riot scene you can see a guy in a white shirt filming it like he might be apart of the set crew. He’s by the barbed wire fence. Not in costume

I'm part Honduran, have tons of Cuban relatives through marriage. Not a single one of them finds anything objectionable with Pacino playing a Cuban. They don't even mind his fake-ass accent. Kind of like the Russians I know, they all love Malkovich as Teddy KGB in Rounders even though who the hell knows what kind of accent that was.

I’m sorry, but what people call “black face” (or any permutation) isn’t really “black face.” Wearing makeup to actually look like a person isn’t what black face was at all. It was wearing boot polish with nothing around the mouth to simulate “big lips.” It was done to make fun of a group, not to actually look like them.
Honestly, pretty much every Hispanic person is at least half European anyway, unless they come from the complete middle of nowhere in the mountains or something. And if anyone remembers Dennis Hoppers speech in True Romance, Sicilians are mixed race too…. So they’re both white enough for Pacino to play who he wants by “mOdErN” standards 😂
