Traverse City woman arrested after SUV crashes into vehicles, flees deputy in Acme Twp.
A 46-year-old Traverse City woman is facing OWI and other charges after deputies say she crashed into multiple vehicles and fled from law enforcement in Acme Township Tuesday afternoon before her SUV ended up in a ditch along M-72. No injuries were reported.
According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received multiple calls around 3 p.m. Oct. 27 reporting a black SUV driving erratically on U.S. 31 North.
Witnesses reported the driver appeared to be intoxicated.
The SUV struck a traffic sign near Five Mile Road, causing the sign to smash through the vehicle’s windshield, according to deputies.
The driver continued onto M-72 before pulling into the Turtle Creek Market parking lot.
Deputies said citizens attempted to stop the driver, but the SUV struck at least two other vehicles and a protective post near the gas pumps.
A deputy arrived and attempted to stop the SUV using his patrol vehicle’s push bumper, but the driver crossed a curb and exited the parking lot.
The SUV then crossed all lanes of M-72 and entered a ditch on the south side of the road, disabling the vehicle.
Deputies removed the driver from the SUV and reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of second-offense operating while intoxicated, resisting and obstructing, fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash, driving with a suspended license and having open intoxicants.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office thanked the citizens who helped report the vehicle’s location and assisted during the incident.
