Wednesday was the best, everybody got the pizza. Sometimes there was even pepperoni on a few.

We always had pepperoni in the Bay Area, CA, back in the day. Sometimes, it was like Pizza Bread.

Also, whatever they didnβt serve, they would freeze and then recook weeks later. It was so freezer burnt!

You guys were luckily. Going to school in the 2000βs, we had a weird single little round pizza that the lunch ladies overcooked and had only one little pepperoni on it.

In Cleveland in the mid to late 70s/early 80s, we had this pizza every Friday, alternating weeks of cheese pizza and "meat" pizza – which was totally little round sausage balls.
It was served with fruit salad and corn. We got to choose between white milk or chocolate milk.

I was only allowed to buy lunch 3-4 times a month… So when we got that menu for the month, I studied it like the TV guide and carefully circled. Pizza at my elem. was not every week. I loved the mashed potatoes with gravy when it was topped with turkey or ground beef. Weird?

A few months ago I tried this out. There was an official government recipe you can find online, and I followed it EXACTLY, down to the spices and everything. Could definitely taste the memories, but one of the spices was WAY too strong and overpowered everything. It stuck in my mouth all day. I must have got a concentrated batch or something. My 6-13 year old taste buds never would have tolerated it, so I'm sure my lunch ladies tweaked the recipe. Anyway, it was a fun experiment. Treat every day as if it's pizza day at school!

Ohhh Iβm totally on board with the lunch lady pizza!
Whether it was growing up in Texas,or attending high school in Ohio,Friday was pizza day. Our option was cheese or pepperoni.
It was soooo good, most of us plopped down an extra 25 cents(Texas),or 85 cents (Ohio) for an extraβsquareβ of pizza.
How did you guys like it as adults? I often wonder what I would think of it now,as I am an unabashed pizza snob these days,as Lorain Ohio has a large Italian community,Pizza Hut never caught on here. We got mom and pop pizzerias all over the place.
Lastly,Abby, seatchspotting time! Your wearing the gold βSave the Swatchβ pop swatch πβΊοΈ
That makes me happy.
Happier than seeing Keith Totally nail the cosmic brownies.π€£

I know totally off subject, don't know if you all have seen the new Atari 2600 Pac-Man Edition. The console is Pac-Man Yellow with Pac-Man and the Ghosts on it. Figured it would interest you all.

My School in NC had that Pizza as well. We also had a Yellow Cheese Pizza called Fiestada, they were good as well. This also made me remember something I had forgotten, our lunchline (think maybe one or two a year) would give us a Pencil that said Eat to Live, not Live to eat. Had completely forgot about those. I'm curious if anybody else's school had those.

At my elementary school we had this pizza and then we also had a little round pizza with yellow cheese. I remember both being good.
Thanks for the memories.

My mom worked in a school cafeteria before and she said they made everything from scratch. At the end of the lunch period, a guy would come and get the scraps from the lunch trays to feed to his pigs.

In junior or high school the ground beef they used must have been 60/40. The pan was soaked in oil. we still ate it.

My mom was a cafeteria manager in the 80s through about 2010 and she said that in our schools they didn't make their own pizza here in Texas (In two different cities). Nothing like a yellow lunch with pizza, corn, and matching yellow tray. Was I the only kid that liked school spinach?

Hi!!! I loooove your content soooo much. I am an early gen z but this is very nostalgic to me, I remember lunch lady pizza back in elementary school/middle school. They served it once a week and it always made my day. Unfortunately by the time I reached high school, lunch lady pizza turned into a wet soggy cheese pizza in a bag… it was a sad end to lunch lady pizza we all knew and loved…

We were one of the poorest counties in North Carolina back in the 80s and our square pizza was like finding a gold mine!

I remember that lunch lady pizza very well! Unfortunately, ours was always terrible so we avoided eating it. Ha ha I emailed you back earlier about those first day of school photos and added an extra one for you. I have a feeling itβs going to make you laugh! Have a great week!

Great post! Took me back lol! I was so excited once I got hot meal tickets instead of Brown bagging it. Remember, we used to have those thermoses full of soup and they always smelt moldy lol
